scrabble
Just wondering which fish to use to cycle a new cichlid tank? I have heard a raage of fish can be used, convicts to neon tetras to guppies.. i have a small 40l tank that I can transfer some of the media to the new tank and some cycle to add, but just wondering what the cheapest and most hardy fish would be to use? Also I have an UFO 880 tank so 305 litres, whihc aragonite sand.. how many fish do i use to cycle the tank? thanks
ryanjury
What type of cichlids are you planning to put in it? Are you planning to buy adults or young ones? There is probably no reason why you can't cycle a 300L tank with cichlids especially if they are africans and you start off stocking it and build up slowly. Just rearrange the rockwork every time you add new fish so there is less fighting. Also transfer some media while you do this and you should be fine. ryanjury
Chuck in the younger ones first and then build up from there only adding new ones every few weeks until you have built upto what you want.. Be careful mixing bigger and smaller ones not only do they eat each other but bigger ones can be hard on small ones.
