Zayne
just the normal stuff would be fine!
smidey
take into account things like how easily i will become mobile & end up in your filter. i have never had a solely sand substrate, i did have it as a base course in a planted tank & it still ended up in the filter with the stone being over an inch thick. depending on what fish you have may also determine how successful it will be. SamH
I use just sand in two of my tanks, the same sand with peat underneath in another. Just bought a big bag of coarse sand from out the back of Mitre10 Mega, make sure you wash it well. Looks great no problems so far. Much nicer than gravel IMO. xxdarnixx
lol thanks for the tips,i had a rethink on it because its for a tank of red jewles that love kicking the bottem up,i would be cleaning sand out the filter constantly!!! im just setting up a breeding tank for them tho, might use it in there as there will only be a pair in at a time. does anyone know if once the eggs are laid i can take out the rock they are attatched to and put it in a baby tank? it saves catching the little buggers later down the track
