Aquatopia
Hi I used to run a Vecton UV on my marine tank several years ago - just wondering if anyone with a greater undertanding of what they do (kill micro organisms is all i know) can tell me if there is a benefit running one on a freshwater tank (african cichlids to be precise) cheers

ryanjury
No real benefit they will help clear up any algae in the water or any parasites etc.. But you are best to find the cause of the algae and only use for a short time if you want to treat something..
Simian
I assume its a in line uv steriliser? I say if you have it run it, it will kill waterborne parasites and algae. I run UV on my planted tank and if I could afford it I would put one on all my tanks. It will tend to clarify the water to a lesser extent by blasting small organic particles in the water as well. I say yes as an extra insurance policy against white spot if nothing else.
