Hi all,

Just bought this fella (fella-ess) today and was wondering what sort of plec it actually is......It was being sold as a "Clown Plec" but doesnt really look like other clown plecs I have seen in the past

In any case take a look, and see what you think...

Heres another pic I took slightly later.....the colour in the top pic is probably more accurate.......with a light yellow tinge to the markings.

PS. Sorry about the quality of the pic.....cheap digital cameras arent good for fish fotos

I'm no expert. At first I thought that it looked like a L204, Flash Pleco (does it look like this up close, see Planet Catfish), but it seems to have very large eyes and it's face seems to be rounded like a Hypancistrus sp., but this could just be the angle ofthe shot :-? A clearer pic would be a great help. Do you mind if I ask how much you paid for it? If it is a L204 they normaly cost around $180+.

Cheers, CatBrat.

I think that the 'whiptails' tend to grow with age, (but don't quote me on that) so it could be a young one? how big is it?

Also check out L270, Chocolate Zebra Pleco. If you can, can you take a close up of the mouth? As it can help narrow it down to a genus through looking at the teeth.

Cheers, CatBrat.

Well, Still nothing on concrete as yet...i still need some clearer pictures for this little guy (lass) But the guys at Planet Catfish (and I see catbrat took another look too! ) seem to think this one could be either L129 or L199........not the "Clown Plec" that it was sold as........

Hoping I've got a bargain here......Catbrat...I paid $60.00 for this little beauty!!!!!

I know I'd be quite happy getting a good looking plec like that for that sort of money - did they only have the one? (it's OK - I'm not in the running to snap up any others they have - totally different island) - just thought if you could get another two of them then better odds of having a pair and since these style of plec don't get huge breeding them is more feasible.

Hi Guys...well, they only had two of these cool plecs, and I quickly snapped up the second one before someone else had the chance to do it........as i said before Im still keen to get a more concrete outcome for the breed.

Just as a side issue....Does anyone else out there have L129 plecs in their tanks? I would be really keen to see pics of your fish, and maybe get a better verification......

Im still trying to take some pics of the Plecs mouth but in the last few days its become rather "camera" shy.

Have you got any better picture's yet?

Not that I have ever kept a L204, but the face profile of the fish in the photo seems to be rounded like Hypancistrus sp.. Alan_au, do your L204 have a rounded face, and large eyes like species Hypancistrus? It's just that I haven't had a chance to look at them up close  .

Cheers, CatBrat.

seems my little friend has a very big case of "camera shyness" and seems very unwilling to "come out and play" at the moment....i have concidered catching it...but with all those hidey holes I've suplied for the plecs....that could be a real challenge.......Hopefully over the next few days I'll "Attempt" to catch and photograph it (well I cant say him or her yet...I dunno which it is!!!
