newfisher
After watching my male guppies continually eat the babys as they hatch from the female I looked in my tank last night and I have 4 healthy looking babes. So exciting I couldn't stop watching and they kept disappearing I was worried the Platys would eat them. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: I assume they are guppy baby's not platys
Spink
It could be either as both guppies and platies are livebearer's, but congrats! I love having new babies, but I usually try and put my female in a breeding trap until she drops. the other trick is to use lots of floating plants for the fry to hide in. You often find more babies when you move stuff too.
newfisher
When you put your girls in the breeding traps (I do have one) how long to you leave her in there as I did this once for 24 hours but felt guilty as she looked like she was sulkng and trying to get out the bottom. Spink
They do that! Once you get to know your fish well enough, you can guess when you think she may be about a week out from dropping her fry. I have had my mollies in a trap for up to three weeks because they fooled me in to thinking they were ready to go! I got it down to a fine art with my big breeding guppies, and although they may look sad, if you really want to keep the fry it's one of the best ways of going about it. It's also a good way to treat her to some yummy live foods without other fish sneeking them all! Have a look in the livebearer section - Cam posted a thread with some drawings of a female guppy going through the various stages and what they look like. It might give you an idea of what they look like right before they're about to pop.
