Guest
Hi guys, I'v got a tank thats home too my baby platys and my male and female fighters. The fighters are really peaceful and haven't hurt or attacked anything and the tank is my healthies tank even though it's the one that gets the least attention. I've also got a spawn of fighter babys that have 4 big ones ranging from 1.5 - 2cms. I've added them with the parents and they seem fine so far(they're to big for the fighter to eat I'm pretty sure). The babys fighters have plenty of plant cover if they need to hide if things do get nasty. My question is if I don't take any of the baby fighters out if one turns out to be male can I keep them together when the babys get older? Do you think it was a mistake to add the babys with the parents? Cam
Davd-lw
that's the way you get your babies grow faster than usual. and less chance to eat eggs when they spowning.
Guest
What????? Are you saying that the baby fighters will grow faster because they'll get the eggs if the pearents spawn?????? I'm thinking of taking the female fighter out as she chases them away a bit but the male doesn't really care.
Davd-lw
just leave the father in the fully planted tank, since the 1st day the fries hiching, the male will eat the dead eggs and weak fries certainly, but strong ones will swim away, and will grow way faster than usual. believe or not! and the offspring will have less chance to eat eggs later on when they sprawning. and be a really good father! :bounce: :bounce:
Guest
I've never heard that before I might try it next time I spawn them. So will the grow faster with the male / parents even though they've been seperated for a while???
Davd-lw
i have done it before, it works well. but remember you will lose some fries, but you will get the stronger ones. 3wks looks like 5week olds. have a look at the Thai way to breed fighters, they use big pond outside, and fully planted, and that's it . Davd-lw
another way to enhance fries growth is water change, you will see in one lot some fries are twice or three times bigger then the others, because the world is a winners world, same as all creatures, fries release hormone to restrain others growth, changing water is the best way to clean hormone out of the tank, and keep all fries grow equally. try it , 10 fries tank and 100 fries tank, same water change(even not often), equal ratio food feeding, we will see the difference. SpidersWeb
Some good tips there I wanted to add though that siamese fighters do not fight if they grow up together AND you don't remove them from the tank or rearrange the tank. If you do either, they'll want to establish territory. Haven't done this myself, but have been told by several breeders this when talking at club meetings. Guest
Sweet. thats pretty much what I want to do. So do you think it's possible to have an old male and just add young fighters in with him and once the babys grow they'll be able to stay with him and I can just keep adding young fighters? Dixon1990
Its a trial and error thing, and depends on temperment of the adult male
Guest
Yeah I suppose I might as well try it. the male is very placid and doesn't chase or hurt anything and even when they're breeding he doesn't do too much damage.
Guest
Forgot to post but the biggest baby (I measered it today and it's 3cms). It's bottom fin is long down one end and its top fin is quite long does this mean it could be a male?
