Naz_Nomad
Does anyone else think, as I do, that this section of the forum needs splitting into "Cichlids - Lakes" and "Cichlids - Not Lakes"? Just a thought...
Dixon1990
Or maybe African&Asia and America or African and America&Asia?
Dixon1990
It would take to long to do.

David R
Why would you want to separate cichlids from lake Nicaragua from other central american cichlids?? Seems how there's a lot of people keen on rift lake cichlids perhaps it could be split into rift lake and other cichlids, but there's not really that many posts to make it worth while IMO. Scuba Sam
There's enough sections as it is to get through - we can all pick which ones we open depending on subject matter can't we? I'm all for the status quo...
Dixon1990
I have seen of other forums African Cichlids South American Cichlids American Cichlids And it works well but like snookie said way more members
ryanjury
Yeah I don't think there are enough members to justify it here.. I like to read most of the posts anyway and would just create more work for mod's etc look at the number of posts we actually get in the cichlid section and we don't get that many anyway.. David R
MFK has a Cichlids forum, for general cichlid discussion, along with six sub-forums; African Rift Lake Cichlids, African Riverine & Madagascar, Central and South American Cichlids, Peacock Bass, Crenicichla (Pike Cichlids), Angel Fish & Discus. They also have nearly 36000 members!

Foxglove
I like the mix of having all cichlids in one forum - but I do prefer people to use proper subject headings!
Naz_Nomad
Maybe thats the problem for me, Foxglove. I love my SA cichlids but don't have much interest in Rift Lake Cichlids.
ryanjury
lol then don't read the african threads  most of them have species names or african in the subject..
David R
I agree with Naz and Foxglove, for some reason a lot of people here seem to use the word "cichlid(s)" when talking about African rift lake cichlids, as if there are no other cichlids. Eg; "I'm setting up a 4' cichlid tank, what should I put in it?". They are talking about a rift lake biotope, yet they have used the word cichlid ignoring the fact that it also covers riverine african cichlids, central and south american cichlids (from dwarfs to monsters) and the few species from asia. I think subject lines in general on this forum [not just Cichlids] need to be made more specific, I hate seeing topics like "Help needed" or "tank for sale" etc and often don't even bother with them.
