michael.qian
Hi all My largest clown loach seems to have a bit of a problem, it seems to have a lump on top of its head, above the eyes, quite a obvious bulge. This might have come from a red spot it had at the same place, few days ago I noticed a little red patch where the lump is, might have been a bite from another fish or something. Not as active or interested in food today. Anything I can do? Help appreciated cheers
michael.qian
Still not eating but slightly more active, though still just very little. Some patches of its skin seems to have gone darker, can't manage a very close look at it swims away if I get too close. Anybody else had the same problem? Any advice would be highly appreciated as I really want to keep this guy alive. cheers
Naz_Nomad
The 'Disease' section would have been better for this question, and a picture is better than a thousand words, but here's my 2c quack diagnosis from my little fishy health book... It is possible that your loach has a tumour. Tumours can be caused by viral infections, pollution of the tank or as a result of physical damage. It is a good idea to segregate the fish if possible, though tumours are rarely infectious, but until you're sure the disease is a tumour and non-infectious, suspect infections are best kept out of the community set-up and the fish's condition will need to be monitored. There is, unfortunately, no effective treatment for tumours regardless of cause. That's the lump. As for the darker patches on his skin, that may be the disease spreading or affecting the internal organs. Alternatively, I might be entirely wrong about the whole tumour thing anyway. An alternative might be infection with mycobacterium, which will cause lumps but not unnecessarily dark patches. Again, it is important to segregate the fish. You'll have to ask your vet about which drug to treat it with though. HTH
michael.qian
definitely hoping it's not tumour. will go into fish shop tomorrow to see what I can do to treat it etc... The lump started as a little red spot, which looked like a fish bite or something, possibly from another clown loach? This is the dominant one, the second biggest one is also fairly dominant, then the two smaller ones never fight against each other.
Chazza404
I had the same thing happen to a clown loach last year, developed a lump ontop of its head behind the eyes, became lethargic with varying levels of activity finally just lying there and then dying. I was unable to determine what the problem was before it died, im sorry i wasn't able to shed any light but just saying the same issue has occured for me.
