SparkyNat
Is there a good website that you can submit your photos for them to id. I always look up new fish but always get confused as a few are very similar in colours but have slightly different markings.
MarkLB
You could try posting them here for an opinion or two. It's worked for me.
SparkyNat
True, but thought people would get annoyed at me for being lazy
Foxglove
Do try here first, as there are people who know heaps and are happy to help out. Also, there is http://www.cichlid-forum.com/phpBB/index.php in the discussion forum there is a section for identifying cichlids. smidey
the members on the cichlid forum have a lot more experience as they have alot more flexibility & is alot easier to import wild caught fish in particular. you could also try to ID yourself with this http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/index.php I like the gallery option that you can click on at the top, african genus or new world cichlids. ryanjury
I wouldn't recommend people who dont really know what they're doing go and look through the profiles there are heaps to look at and alot of similair looking fish especially peacocks and mbuna.. Its helpful to confirm what someone has said, also alot of the pics on there are of show or wild caught fish from specific locations and may not to typical of the strain we have in NZ.. smidey
I wouldn't recommend people who dont really know what they're doing go and look through the profiles there are heaps to look at and alot of similair looking fish especially peacocks and mbuna.. we all have to start somewhere, the best way to learn the differences are to scan through lots of pics. also they may find an exact match with watever they may have
ryanjury
I have seen alot of id's on here and on trademe with people going through there and matching up fish that aren't in NZ or photos that look nothing like their fish.. It is a good place to start though

ryanjury
Need a clearer pic when the fish is coloured up more really, maybe maleri? What did you buy it off and was it from a breeder or petshop?
MarkLB
My first thought was Maleri.
SparkyNat
I got it from a pet shop here i got 2 at the same time but they both are completely different in there colours the other has gone more yellow body with no stripes and a blue head. MarkLB
It sounds like a male Maleri and the one in the pic is either a sub male that isn't showing colour or its a female. By the look of the fin shape I'm going to say its a sub male.
