jolliolli
how long did it take before your tang seemed to recover it has been 2 weeks so perhaps its still early days? i dont' want to over-react but also don't want him to get too sick (he still seems fine, its proably more stressful for me than him lol). Fmxmatt
About a month until I noticed the whitespot becoming less
jolliolli
just an update he's still got the white spots, probably a dozen on each side, but still happy and eating, i think he's looking like he should pull through ok
wasp
Good to hear, i wanted to ask but didn't want any bad news! If it's still alive now he's looking like he'll make it. Please keep us updated also be good to hear the eventual outcome. Whitespot is something that visits nearly every starting out reefer eventually and it's good if we can build up a body of people here with experience to help the new people throught this. jolliolli
yes i was relieved! seems to be whitespot 'season' at the mo, i have read of two other cases of whitespot recently on the 'other' site, one a blue tang and one a bannerfish, unfortunately both died. Luckily for me my blue tang thinks he's king of the tank so that keeps the stress levels down for him
wasp
Yes being king will help. My son had a bannerfish in his tank, it had whitespot for a week or two no problems, then it worsened a bit, the other fish figured out he was not feeling to good and started picking on him, he hid for a couple of days then we had a close look & he was covered, I think the stress of getting beaten up made the whitespot worse, he looked aweful i'm sure if we left him he would have been dead in a day or two. So we got him out & put him in a tank by himself, no treatment but he cleaned up in, from memory, a couple of weeks. We put him back in the other tank which he still remembered, slotted right back in, no problems. Just needed enough chance to build immunity i think. jolliolli
Whitespot Free! Today is the first day the tang has no white spots visible, so looks like he's fought it off successfully. Thanks to everyones valuable input, in particular in convincing me to leave him alone and fight it off himself rather than dosing the tank or quarantining him.
