Darrell Quadling
I am now the proud owner of some Galixy Danios or a fish by any other name…I read that these fish were RECENTLY IN SEPTEMBER 2006 FOUND !! ..what an arrogant statement !! The locals have known about them for thousand of years and it would not surprise me to find that they have a very special delicate little number for special occasions…GALAXY FRITTERS.. much as we do here in NZ have whitebait fritters ! David R
Did it say 'found' or 'described'? I guess they were refering to the latter, obviously the natives have [probably] known about them for years, but I doubt they gave them a latin name. Faran
Congrats mate, glad you're happy with your new babies and I'm confident you'll take good care of them. You're not far off, actually. It would seem that the locals catch these en masse and dry them out, then sell them in a little can of 500 for about 25c. Yeah, that blew my mind too... Darrell Quadling
Notes: New fish don't come much newer than this: the species was only discovered a few weeks ago (August 2006) and was first introduced by Kamphol Udomritthiruj of Thailand-based exporter AquariCORP. The first specimens arrived in the UK during September. Practical Fishkeeping was the world's first magazine to break news of the species.
