Dixon1990
I plan on making a stand for another 3 foot tank but this one is only 100L (91cmWx38cmDx48cmH). Would a stand made from 4"x1" wood be strond enough? Il be making a stand similar to the one i made for my larger tank. Would this design work in 4"x1" wood? And I want to use as little amount of wood possible so if i can lose some off this design can you please tell me. Cheers
Dixon1990
The Stand is only going to be 75cm high. Can anyone tell me if it will be strong enough with 4"x1" wood? Because i want to start making it tomorrow.

Caper
Sorry Dixon, can't help...not carpentary oriented in any way! Although, some day hope to build my own stand with lots of help of course   Caper
cichlid7
Use 3x2 and the 2 at each end you dont need so that is 4 less bits of wood. I dont think 4x1 will be strong enough
Dixon1990
ohk, where would be the cheapest place to get 3x2?
ryanjury
Id say 4x1 would be strong enough provided you used it so the load was bearing through the 4" section (if you know what I mean) and braced it..

Dixon1990
What makes it even worse is the way our house is facing, all the south walls in the house that have enough room for tanks get about 6hours of suinlight a day. Sounds like the ideal location for a Hillstream loach tank Pity you are so far away or I could hook you up with some nice timber. You could build using 4x1s, just use more and brace them better. But then you may as well use the 4x2s  Cheers Ian
Dixon1990
Would a stand made completly out of 18mm mdf be strong enough for a 100L tank?
Ianab
Would a stand made completly out of 18mm mdf be strong enough for a 100L tank? Yes Thats what most of the commercial ones are  Just make sure it's designed so it's braced properly. You probably want a support in the middle to stop the top sagging, and use the back panel to brace everything. Make sure it's painted or polyurethaned properly, MDF and water dont mix. Ianab
Would painting it with a few layers of enamel paint make it waterproof? Water resistant, yes. Good enough to survive the occasional splash or spill. Cheers Ian
