jolliolli
i was testing my marine aquarium today and decided to test the phosphates in the fresh water aquarium as well. Phosphates registered at 1ppm. I feed a lot of frozen foods (bloodworms, mozzie larvae) as a couple of my discus won't eat anything else. i have no idea whether this reading is high or low for a freshwater tank can anyone tell me? Also are there any potential hazzards of having a high phosphate level?
ryanjury
I had 6ppm in my african tank, fish were all happy breeding, my only problem was water was green.. So I don't think its harmful? Mine was coming from cheap food that had very high phosphate levels in it, I don't use it anymore and the levels have dropped.. I think it can also come from decaying plant matter. michael.qian
1ppm doesn't sound too high. With high phosphates you should get a lot of algae, so if you have little algae then your phosphate levels should be fine.
jolliolli
No algae, everyone's healthy I was just curious as to what a 'safe range' was
