Caper
Hmmm...I thought I posted this last night...but I guess not. Anyway, in reference to my post here regarding cloudy water, I discovered that my ammonia went up to 1. Why would an established tank's ammonia go up? Gee, I was sure I posted this already in a new thread :-? :-? Caper
paekakboyz
I think you did in a cloudy water post?
Caper
Post - cloudy water, change...you're right I added the question to it. I wasn't getting any response so I thought maybe people were still thinking cloudy water. I reposted so they would know I also wanted to find out why ammonia would go up. Gee...does that make sense :-? Caper
SpidersWeb
Normally caused by somebody putting something in the tank they shouldn't have, like half a container of flakes, or similar. Also think about what you've done to/with the tank in the last day or two. If the filter has been off or cleaned recently this could knock back the nitrifying bacteria which may lead to a problem like this in severe cases. I guarantee both the cloudy water and ammonia rise will be caused by the same thing.
jn
Not mysteriously missing any fish are you? Or maybe one of your filter pipes has got something in it? Added fish? Changed your food?
jn
Just saw your gravel vac post.. have you changed your cleaning routine or stirred up gravel in a way you hadn't before?
Caper
I've done a couple of water changes & my ammonia is now 0. However, the water is still cloudy...but getting better. I haven't fed the fish since the weekend...will wait the 7 days & see what happens! I did nothing different when I gave the "monthly" cleaning. I even took out the ornaments & gave them a good scrub. No new fish to tank...like I said a couple of artificial plants...but that's it. But, I really did "stir" up the gravel...but I always do that when giving a good cleaning. SpidersWeb
But, I really did "stir" up the gravel...but I always do that when giving a good cleaning. That'd be it. Something would have been decomposing in the gravel.
Caper
What could be decomposing Spidersweb?? Plus I always to that...but I think the next time I'll try the "jab" tube down in gravel & work my way around that way. To tell you the truth, I thought maybe a dead fish because my 3 ottos are usually hard to spot. Caper
