MarkLB
Hi all. I got home from work today and noticed one of my Peacock Cichlids has a crook eye. He seems happy enough and is eating well. Any suggestions / questions welcome.
ryanjury
He has grated his eye on something.. I have had it happen a few times and only lost one eye... When I notice it happen I catch the fish and drop meth blue or tonic directly onto the wound and I do that daily or twice daily until it clears up.. ryanjury
Hows the fish looking today man?
MarkLB
Hes looking a little better I think. The eye isn't protruding as much and is looking a bit clearer. Its a hassle to catch him daily so I'm setting up another tank for him this weekend.
ryanjury
Yeah its usually what I do transfer them into a tank that makes them easier to catch, then I catch them twice a day, I usually chuck some rock salt in the water too dont know if it helps but its supposed to help with fungus. I feel mean dropping the meth blue on them and stressing them out but I ignored the first time it happened and the fishes eye rotted out... ryanjury
Im pretty sure the direct application works alot better and also has the advantage of not staining all your silicon and tank..
MarkLB
Point taken...I just remembered that I'll be putting in some coral rock too....which reminds me of a toothpaste ad..'And just like ink gets into chalk'

MarkLB
Hi all. The treatment is working. As you can see , he is looking much better. I've been applying a drop of Meth Blue as per ryanjurys advice. Thanks again Ryan. I think another few days and he'll be good as new. ryanjury
He is looking good man, it should fully heal Im glad it worked have seen it a few times and treated it the same way each time, if you dont treat it the eye basically rots out its what happened the first time I noticed it and didn't do anything about it He's a nice looking fish too, is he one of the ones you bred from?
