michael.qian
Hi, got the Eheim 2224 I bought from Trademe today. Got it all setup and all pipes connected, but can't get it to start. When I plug it in without water it goes and sounds like normal so it definitely works. Anyway I filled the canister with water, plugged it in and it occasionaly makes a slight clicking noise, and I tried sucking as hard as I could on the outlet but it still doesn't go. Any ideas on how to get it started? thanks a lot
fulloc
they need 2 be primed up dont thy? orit will get an airlock. nut dont quote me on that lol
michael.qian
how do you prime them? There's two levers on on the left and one on the right, beside the inlet and outlet pipes. But I can't seem to push them without breaking them.
michael.qian
Both levers have two positions, 0 and 1. Right now they are on 0, should I push them to 1? But can't push them unless I push really hard, which then I'm afraid they'll break.
michael.qian
Got it going now. Was an idiot, the lever had to be at the ON position, which was 1, I pushed a little harder and got it at 1. Turned on the filter, sucked on the outlet and off it went. ryanjury
I start all mine by siphoning to fill them up. You need to set your filter up normally, but not plugged in and you should start with it empty. Take the outlet pipe out the tank and below the level of the inlet in the tank, then suck on it starting a Typhon thorough the filter, it will take a while but the filter will fill and water will come out the outlet pipe, give the filter a shake and bang to get all the air out shut one of the taps stick the outlet back in the tank, plug the filter back in and open the tap it should go Good luck! michael.qian
Ok very bad news. After about 2 hours of running the filter started leaking from the where the top half connects to the canister (the box). Any ideas? Or is it faulty? Will take it apart and look at it carefully. ryanjury
That sucks, it sounds random to start leaking after 2 hours of operation, did you bump it or change anything, ive only had them leak when I put them together wrong or forget a seal or something and then they leak straight away? michael.qian
Figured out why now. A small piece of the top half has a piece of plastic broken off right near the seal, that's where it was leaking from. Guess I'll be asking for a refund, I can't see anyway to fix it and have no chance of finding the piece of plastic. Gee this really sucks it was the perfect filter, but no it has to leak. michael.qian
anyone know if it's possible to get it fixed? a pity a great filter is stuffed because of one little piece of plastic.
ryanjury
post a pic of the damage.. Any chance of using silicon to glue it back up? You may have to use sandpaper to rough up the edges to get the silicon to stick to the plastic but depending on the damage it might be possible, either way if id brought it broken id be feeling pretty ripped off.. michael.qian
Two pictures. First one is the damaged corner. Second photo shows what it looks like unbroken. http://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/12/48722012_full.jpghttp://images.trademe.co.nz/photoserver/19/48722019_full.jpg

ryanjury
Looks like you could just silicon that up rough up around it first with sandpaper and then stick the 2 sides together and let it dry it might dry and be good enough that you can take it apart and stick it together without too much hassle.. Have you contacted the seller to say it was broken? Or did it get broken at your end or in the post?
michael.qian
I'm sure it was broken back at seller's end, in Hamilton, seller may not have noticed though. I don't have the missing piece, that's the biggest problem.
MarkLB
Just a couple of ideas......It looks fixable to me...what about some of that putty type stuff..I think theres a Selleys product that you can mould by hand to shape and it hardens like stone. You can then use a file and sandpaper to finish it off. There are places that can weld plastic..........they repair bumpers etc. Or 'bog' like used in panelbeating?? michael.qian
I'll take it into Hollywood on Thursday morning and see if they have any ideas. This is gotta be the most disappointing thing for me in a long time.
Dixon1990
Complain to seller.
michael.qian
but even if I do put something on it to fix it, say put the stuff that harden on it, wouldn't it eventually break off due to the constant water flow past it? ryanjury
Yeah id definitely complain to seller.. If the bits not in the packaging then it didn't break in shipping so its their fault they sold you a dud Does water have to flow down the outside piece that has broken off?
michael.qian
water seems to come out from there initially, but goes all around the seal and flows downwards, outside of course. Have asked for a refund, but will try Hollywoods first see it I can fix it, because don't really want to give this filter up that easily, everything is perfect apart from the broken piece, which unfortunately stuffs the whole thing. The stuff I'm thinking of is waterproof....I think you can even get one that is for repairing split seams in car radiators...and its sticks like something sticky to a blanket
michael.qian
Seller agreed to a refund. Went to into the Hollywood today, they said the best way to repair it or in fact the only way, is to replace the top half, which is the main part of the filter, that's going to cost $230. So in that case, I'll take the refund. Such a pity...
evilknieval69
You can buy an aqua one CF1200 or a Jebao 304 for around $120 new off trademe so why pay that much second hand?.....
michael.qian
I guess I could, I always like to go for the best brand though. For my tank an AquaOne CF700 would be enough, the CF1200 with 1200LPH flow rate might be too strong. Or would it not matter? Because the intake and the spraybar out let doesn't seem to create that much current.
