jolliolli
i want to buy some plastic grating similar to the sort of grating that you see in bathroom extraction fans to go over the top of the overflow to prevent snails etc getting stuck. Does anyone know where to buy this or something similar. At the moment i have a sponge at the top but know this isn't ideal..
JoeBlog
I use that black plastic mesh that is intended to keep the leaves out of your gutters. I bought a roll of the stuff at Bunnings.
WEKA
I have plenty of that white plastic grating that is used on light fittings. It is approx 10mm thick and the square holes are about 10mm. You are welcome to some of that if it suits. PM me.

If your purpose is to stop snails, then the light defusers are fairly useless, i.e., the holes are just too big. They are great for stopping fish from going over, but many snails cruise right through that size hole (and still large enough to cause problems in pumps/plumbing in the sump). The gutter guard is HEAPS cheaper as well.

WEKA
I use a piece of the plastic sheet from a tank divider. The holes are very small but I have a large area in my overflow to carry the flow. It sits on top of a trickle filter so also helps spread the flow thru the filter.
