HaNs
I have put some stocking over my inlet of my internal filter on my 38L breeding tank for my patties. My water flow has decreased to a drip and i think i need more flow for a healthy tank. Any suggestions? May make the inlet longer and put small holes in it with a drill(new inlet pipe with pvc)
MarkLB
You can buy empty mesh bags at the LFS that are used for holding filter media or charcoal. The mesh isn't as fine as stocking but should still stop fry without restricting flow too much. Or chop up an old fish net.
Ianab
Make a longer inlet, and put lots of big holes in it, so many holes the pipe will fall apart if there are any more. Then cover that with the stocking. 8) If you are going with a fine mesh, then you want a lot of inlet area to keep the flow up. jn
Sounds like a marketing opportunity to me. Why doesn't someone sell something like that? Hey.. out of curiosity... I've never used a sponge filter so excuse me if this is crazy.. but would there be a type of sponge that is commonly used for a sponge filter that might fit over a standard filter inlet? That might allow better flow than a stocking?

jn
Ok.. so those sponges are really dense are they! Sorry! Wish it was easier to find coarse sponge in bulk like the type they use on pond pre-filters!
Skoll
I used sponge filter. Looked through what was available and there was once which was moderately coarse for a internal filter, so it had a hole all the way through it . Slipped it over the relatively long standard intake cover and blocked the hole at the end with a filter wool plug. Works fine for the various external filters I've got, undetectable difference in flow, but then reducing flow may not be a bad thing with fry. Gavin.... :)
SpidersWeb
Yep sponge filter over the inlet. Stretch it, it'll fit. still needs to be rinsed once a week though.
