bli
Hi Bulldog Yes I use Silica sand in my Planted tank. I liked the effect white sand gave so I purchased about 10kg from Placemakers for around $10. Once washed, I added this to my tank and does not effect my desired ph level. I purchased the sand as I knew it would be a good substrate for my plants and now the glosso and sag have totally carpeted the front of the tank. However I still liked the look when plenty of sand was showing as this pic from a few months ago shows. Good luck and go for it!
