fishtv
Hi all, after having problems with my tank for ages, it seems to have come right. I am thinking of adding some more fish to the tank and would love some ideas. My tank is 80cm long, 40cm wide, and 55cm tall. It is well established and moderately planted. At the moment I have, 1 x Rainbow shark (still young and small) 1 x Golden Algae eater 1 x Red Spot pleco (about 10cm maximum) 1 x Bristlenose 7 x Cherry Barbs 2 x Swordtails Any suggestions? I would love a pair of Kribs and maybe a pair of dwarf gouramis? Would they suit? Thanks in advance!!!!!
GZ_Loach
what about some blue rams
fishtv
Yea I love the Blue Rams and I brought a pair only weeks before my tank became infected with intestinal parasites and sadly I lost them both.... I might get brave enough to try them again? :-?
GZ_Loach
iv got
fishtv
Lucky for you. They are an amazing fish.... might have to get a pair? Ohhh but what is going to have to be sacrificed?
GZ_Loach
you should take the leap to cichlids and sell ya other fish :bounce:
fishtv
Yea, one day I will set up a other tank but for now a community suits me fine.
GZ_Loach
you should buy a trio of zebra plecos and try breeding them, apparently there easy to breed if you follow a few simple steps, selling the fry would soon cover the cost of the parents
fishtv
mmmm zebra plecos.... might have to do some research? will they be ok with my plecos?
GZ_Loach
probly not, they max out at about 8.5cm and normal plecos grow alot bigger and get aggresive. and zebra plecos cost over $100 each
evilknieval69
Zebra plecos arent available in Nz, and if they were bought in they'd cost over $1000..... EACH
GZ_Loach
Wrong, pet world in Hamilton had one for $140 a few months ago although i dont thing it was the L046... this one had the opposite colour arrangement, ie black with white stripes NOT white with black stripes. evilknieval69
exactly, so its not a zebra pleco. l046 are 'zebra plecos' anything else is not a zebra pleco, just a look-a-like using the same name
fishtv
hmmm $1000 might be a little bit expensive for a student? Do you think my tank will be over stocked?
evilknieval69
Have you thought about keyholes? they are a very nice young cichlid, only grow to 5ish cm's max, dont eat plants, easy to sex, easy to breed, dont attack other fish too much (only when breeding but hardly even then aswell) and dont cost too much (10ish or so each) Or kribs? GZ_Loach
Red Jewels are pretty cool, there pretty relaxed aswell. iv got 3 and all they do is wonder around looking at things
fishtv
I def want a pair of kribs! I will research others thanks guys!
sharn
gz loach- what he had was probably L204 or flash/zebra plec. its why common names are a pain in the bum but they are certanly pretty wee fellows! bolivian butterfly rams may be worth looking into? snookie
i think you have bottom dwellers sorted , you need more midwater action. in my opinion
fishtv
yea i agree! the bottom is filled well? If I add a pair of Kribs, pair of dwarf gouramis and a pair of rams will it be over stocked?
snookie
few honey gouramis would look the part , that rainbow shark is probably going to give you problems eventually , kribs may get agro when loved up also another suggestion more swords but thats only my opinion
fishtv
I was told that the rainbow was fairly quiet? he is great at the moment! If I make sure that the kribs have plenty of hiding places and a well planted cave I was told they would be fine together?
snookie
you are lucky to have a rainbow on prozac ! hope he stays like that sound like your heart is set on kribs , go for it , if it dont work you will know for next time i guess
