smidey
I have a mustard coloured algae appearing in my new african tank. could this be right? I have only ever had BBA in my community tank so no experience with the light brown coloured gunge. Is it brown algae? It is on the filter & heater so not just on stone. also those are 3 of the 6 fryeri i got from Dan.

smidey
ok, so the best way to get rid of said uglyness from tank?
davidb
manually remove it then make sure it doesn't come back if it was a reef tank everyone would be yelling out ROWAphos but its not so i dunno- high nitrates perhaps? what do your readings say? With african tanks there is alot of wast so you need a high filter turnover because you are essentially overstocking
noelj
this usually occurs in new setups, it will most likely go away after a few weeks or so, also could be the result of high silica from new gravel or rocks.

I currently have 9 small africans in 80L with 500L/H filtration.
