Baby Panduros this time??

Here are the fifth, or is it the sixth lot of eggs from my Apistogramma panduros.

Estimate of the number of eggs is 60 plus.

I get a little closer to success now with each lot of eggs presented to me by the pair.

Note:- Behind the second peg is a thermostat, this is connected to the light bulb at the right hand side, another bulb also at the other end of the shelf.

The front of this shelf, 1.200 x .400, is closed in the evening with 10mm polystyrene to control the heat which is set at 23oC.

The pot is supported by a saddle I made to stop the eggs from blowing out as they hatch to wrigglers, and I have a small airstone to keep the water inside the pot from getting stale.

To give an idea of the size, those are the common garden variety plastic clothes pegs.

The parents are banned to their spawning tank, 28oC, I now remove the eggs from them as soon as I see them, the last, all but one batches, were scoffed by the female.

I don't give her a chance now.

I think I may have been a bit out with my temp., I'll check it again, but the last lot that DID hatch to the wriggler stage did OK untill I made a clinical booboo.

Checked the temp.

The one above is the air, ambient temp., during the daytime when left open, and the water is 26oC.

With the heating and confinement, it is working a dream, only thing is I'll have to paint out the light bulbs as when the temp. drops, the fish get a wake up call.

Looking good there. Mine are doing the same and had 7 batches and ate all. I got another female, she is younger and had eggs for a day before she ate them. I have since moved them to a breeding tank on their own and will take them away once I see the eggs. Good luck and hope you have better luck than me.

Just checked the hatching tank, see those eggs in that pic?

Well they are no longer there, and in it's place is a sort of scraggly, whitish mass. (Caryl loves that type of discription)

I thought "Oh bother!!."  (Yeah right)

So I got onto tippytoes, twisted the vase so that I could see into the base of it.

YIPEE, I have wrigglers.

Now for the next step and try to alleviate what I did wrong last time.

You're not being nosey Luke.

What I say may help others not make the same mistake.

Last time, due to the fact that the air supply was blowing the wrigglers into the wide open spaces of the tank from their vase, I turned the air off.

I believe then that the decaying egg membranes polluted the water and started of a fungal attack on the babies.

You may be able to tell from the pic that I'm using tonic to combat this, but by having the air off, the vases water was not being changed, as it is now.

Thanks for the well wishes.

Well done. :bounce: :bounce:

My other pair spawned this morning and I'm going to follow your method and see if I have any luck. Moved pot with eggs into container and put airstone in pot to keep water moving.

Thanks for the info, will keep you posted.:bow::bow:
