Foxglove
Can anyone tell me if Daltons Propagating Sand is too sharp or rough for the cory's barbels? and what is the ideal substrate for them? - I have peppered corys.
Billaney
I've just set up 3 new tanks just for cory's and have used platters sand from goodshed in naenae , $7.50 a bag ( enough for about 3, 3 foot tanks )

Insect Direct
Ive got mine in a bare bottom tank for now is there any reason to use sand, is it to make them more at home and or is it better for breeding?
Billaney
i second that, im looking for something for my pictus tank but haven't decided what yet. I like to use sand or some substrate because some species of corys like to lay there eggs on broad leaf plants or java moss so the substrate helps the plants. The cory's also like to hide/shade under the plants too making them feel safe and happy corys breed easyer

Foxglove
Thanks to all - especially Paul. 'll visit the Goods Shed on Monday, when I'm back at work in Naenae! I have just shifted my peppered cories into a new 3ft planted tank but may set up a breeding tank for them later on.

Looks a good grade for general use Cheers Glenn

sharn
plasterers sand is the stuff i use too, i got a 20kg bag from benchmark for 5 bucks. it was pretty dirty though so needed a good wash. my cories love it, they really get their barbells down into it and they look so cute with their heads down ploughing thru the sand
