Hi Guys , I bought three of these guys on a recent trip to auckland , they were sold to me a Panda Cory's , Which they are not and i knew that at the time but i was not sure whatthey were , i've done a fair bit of looking up and the closest i can come up with is the Corydoras Delphax a good piocture in the alexrof mini atlas middle picture on page 437 looks almost idential to the first picture here so i'm 95% sure thats what they are but does anyone else have them or know what they really are for sure ?

I found this pic that shows the lighter part just behind its head well, notice how it has no spots through it, well not DARK ones like yours....

apart from mine being darker they do look like the same species tho ..i think thats another point in the right nameing. Thanks

I think Delphax or Melanistius. I have what I'm pretty sure is a Delphax but no-one really knows much about them so am not positive. Have been trying to get more for a while now and haven't been able to find any so lucky you! I think the Melanistius seem to have smaller spots than yours and mine.

Heres my post with pic of mine: http://www.fnzas.org.nz/fishroom/delpha ... 14675.html

Be nice to know what you think, Thanks NC

I know that the Melanistus is and has been imported into NZ.

But I have not heard of the other.

I wrote this for Northlandchic in her post.

I'd still go for it with yours too Paul.

I have never seen the C.delphax on any lists, but I have the C. melanistus.

Looking at the two they are similar but your point about the size of the spots makes me tend to agree withyou northland chic, that we both have the Corydoras Delphax, they might well have been like Alan said "side catches" and not come in as Delphaxs but i think there here and thats a great thing :), will try and bred mine as soon as a tank comes free and see what happens. :)

I was pretty excited to see your photo - I have one too. Doesn't have the pale patch in front of the dorsal thought.

I have looked at pictures of melanistius as well - doesn't it have black on the front spines of the dorsal? Mine doesn't. I will await further comments with interest. I spent a while at the LFS looking up my guy in their colour books and couldn't find them.

Northland chic - if you are going to be down this way sometime soon, feel free to pm me if you would like to come check my guy out - see if he looks the same as yours - he is my biggest cory by far, and I call him (or her) "Bandit".

Mine came with a tank from Auckland, I was told he was wild born but no other info.
