Chris.L
You don't need anything in the tank except a sponge filter (and a pair of course). Minimum breeding tank size would be a 25-30gallon tank. You need something for them to breed on so a upside down put would do the trick or you can buy the special breeding cones from the petshop. Remember, the first couple of times they will probably eat the eggs so don't give up. They need to learn what to do :>. Chris-

Alan
Ya only need lighting if you want to see them, or have plants. Alan
Doc Holiday
If you don't have lighting Alan your tank will fill with brown algae quite rapidly. So I found out thinking I might save on power not turning the lights on in my unplanted tank.
Alan
Years ago, while tripping the "Lite Fan Tastic" thru the eastern area in Auck. We, the club, were invited to meet a Chinese gentleman who bred Discus. These were in the under-house garage area, which took up most of the area of the house. He had no lights, and we were issued with torches to admire his fish with. Absolutely beautiful, tanks spotless, obvious signs they were breeding. A whole new experiance. So maybe the brown needs LOW level, and without it, the algae does not appear. He was also right into bonsai trees, dozens of them out the back. TM
you should have a small light on 24/7 when the babies hatch.... The tanks I use are much smaller about 20x20x20 inches with just a sponge filter. Feed the pair heaps before and after they have had the eggs.. We give the pairs a water change every day. It comes out of a big drum that has peat in it..
