Steve P
I have recently moved to Wellington from Gisborne and am looking into setting up a reef tank. I Previously had a 4 foot fish only marine tank and dont have any experience with corals. I am wondering if anyone in the Wellington area has some tanks that i could view and get some advice/ideas off. As i got rid of my 4 foot tank I will be starting this project from scratch.Would it be better to buy a set up already built or build one from scratch??. I am not to sure on size yet maybe around the 200+ litres but this may vary depending on what advice i recieve. Any help would be appreicated. suphew
Hi Steve, there are a few of use here. My tank is round 800l, but theres a couple locally that make mine look small! Pies has a setup for sale at the moment from one of the local reefers that had commitments oversea which might suit you, it comes with most of the stuff you would need to get started, rock, test kits, skimmer, return pumps etc. Most of us are pretty happy to meet other reefer and show off our tanks! Other than Ira we are mostly round the Jvill, Churtonpark, Tawa area

Feelers
this will be your cheapest way into marine, I'd second that, I just got an amazing deal on a second hand tank, the price difference between 1st hand and second hand stuff is ridiculous, most marine things have a fairly constant value after becoming second hand, - they tend to age very well. I'm a dedicated bargin hunter, and every so often a really good deal will pop up, patience(aka poor time management skills) is a virtue. I think everything I own is worth as much today as the day I bought it, actually I think I can make money on my collection of marine goods. If you buy a whole setup off someone - it will be much much cheaper. And you also know when you come to sell, you'll get most of your money back. 8)
