Bananalobster
Heya, yet another question... I was wondering if it would be possible to have a breeding pair of kribensis and a (possible) breeding pair of blue apistos in the same tank.. tank size would be 84cm L 44cm W 41cm H.. (Approx 160L-180L)? driftwood and lots of rocks for hideyholes provided.
Jettin
Yep theyll be fine. Sounds like you should have alot of cover in your tank, which is what i would have recommended.
Bananalobster
Thankyou Jettin! Dont have a light for any plants sorted out yet but will have lots of terracotta pots, rocks and driftwood designed for these cave spawners. Would beach sand harden the water and/or make it sway to the higher end of the ph scale? have some leftover from my mbuna tank so thought I might be able to get away with using instead of buying extra. What do you think?
sharn
it will to varying degrees (depending on what your water is like now) but im not sure how much. the apistos may dislike it if it gets too high but the kribs probably wouldnt care

What do you think? Are you talking about beach sand or coral sand? Both should harden the water and raise the ph. Ok to use aslong as ph isnt too high. Id rather spend a little bit of money and get some fine gravel 2-4mm size.
Bananalobster
just random sand I "borrowed" from the beach. coral sand does raise the ph and hardens the water doesnt it? anyway.. the ph from the tap is about 7 to 7.2ish so should be okay. will be driftwood to help buffer. thanks for the help and anymore info is very welcome EDIT: sorry thought you said "shouldnt" raise the ph. in that case I might go get some fine sand... lots on trademe at the mo for a good price

Bananalobster
oh cool I have some kribensis available from a breeder close to me.. I think they are just at the sexable size. Do you think I should get four or more or just two that may have paired up (if any look like they have)?

If you can find a pair id say stick with that, if there isnt a pair available...... kribs are easy to pair anyway, most of the time if you put a male and female together that are mature then they will normally pair within 1week.
