Bubbles
Bored at work se been doing a bit of reading: http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-03/rhf/index.php http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-04/rhf/index.php http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2006-05/rhf/index.php Thought I'd throw it out there and see what people's opinions are: - Won't use - Don't use - Intend to use Bubs
KP
I have done a bit of reading on that subject. If I had one I would use it The main purpose would be to increase water clarity, and break down a bit of proteins. So I would use at about 20mg 24x7 The only real disadvantages I see are that it makes your skimmer work less and puts the load on bacteria. And if using higher doses without a controller it can kill your tank if not carefull. Surely someone on here has dabbled with it.
lduncan
Won't use. I choose UV over ozone. It has many of the same benefits without some of the pitfalls of ozone. If I had to use ozone, it would be on a controller, and the ozonated water run through carbon before entering the tank.
KP
From what I have read UV has nothing on the clarity of Ozone use.
lduncan
depends how much UV you use. ;-) But yes, a tank with a typical sized ozone will clarify water more effectively than the same tank with a typical sized UV on it. But there are other more practically useful effects than water clarity... water quality.
KP
What size UV are you using? What pitfalls does ozone have that UV doesn't?
lduncan
What size UV are you using? 40Watt HO What pitfalls does ozone have that UV doesn't? Those nasty oxidised halogens for one. Not to mention ozone itself. Potential to overdose.
KP
Yeah, them do seem to run into trouble at high dosing rates, burning SPS tips and ORP levels all over the place. IMO low level treatment would be the only way to go.
lduncan
That's why I chose UV. Crank it up without worrying about OD.
