  1. I collect 400L at a time and it does not matter if it is a bit dirty.

I just let it sit for one or two days and it is clear as.

That's what happens in nature, calm days settle out the sediment.

Draw off water just above bottom of barrels - no problem.

  2. I drilled the side and bottom of my 600L after it was made using an old ordinary hole saw and water based grinding paste with a little wall of putty around to form a pond for the cooling water - worked great.

  3. My son whose house was written off in Avonside came to our house for a meal on Saturday nite.

On his way back to their temp accommodation they called into their house to pick up some clothes and disturbed the burglars. Police dog tracked them for about two miles and they were to appear in court today.

    Low lifes.

  4. The tank, poly and board all slid off the top off the stand together.

Just finished lowering the level in my 600L and jacking and levering it back into position.

Hope it stays there this time. Will look at anchoring it to the concrete floor.

It sits on a six legged metal box section stand.

  5. My 60l cold salt water jumped off the stand and spread it's contents across the room.

Have just finished wet vac. Amazing how far 60l will spread. My 600L moved across the floor about 125mm and dropped the two plate glass covers into the tank - no apparent damage at this time.

My son was not as lucky with his house now straddling a massive crack which runs across the road, under his house and back across the road on the other side ( corner section) The house will most likely be a write off as it has torn apart. I was amazed that my 100L hex in the lounge only slopped a bit of water. It is about 2 meters tall and top heavy. Will now put a strap around it.

PS On the way to my son's house I noticed water coming out the doors of Animates in Papanui and at Bubble and Sqeak in Stanmore Road.

  6. I have posted before on this subject recommending you look at joining powershop.co.nz

I am forecasting a saving of approx $600 - $700 for the year!!!!

Savings are not as great in the winter but there are some great specials in the summer months.

They have a promotion at the moment : if I send them your email and first name they will give you $50.00 credit if you join and I get $25.00 credit. There is nothing for you to do to change over and if you do not wish to continue they will change you back at no cost. You can go to their web site and if they are able to supply you they will tell you the min guaranteed saving. In addition for all power you use during the day at weekends they give you 5 cents per unit credit!! PM me your email and first name to get an invite to join - absolutely no obligation.

    You will not regret it.

    Cheers

  7. Yeh they got quite friendly over the months and would come out and arm wrestle each other.

They loved the live crabs which would not even make it to the bottom of the tank before being nailed.

I think at least one of the brittle stars is still around but they don't show themselves much.

I have two large paddle crabs in my 600L. I started with four but when the females shed their shells the males carry them around mating for a few days and then eat them while they are still soft. How bizarre is that!!

  8. Hi Hazara

Unfortunately they both died last month. They were both doing fine and had grown quite a bit up until the beginning of June. The smaller of the two was looking a bit odd before I had a three day trip to Auckland.

I left them a few crabs to eat but when I returned the smaller one was dead and the big one was very sick and died the next day. I have no idea what the problem was unless they were a small variety and died of old age.

The crabs are still running around and all the water tests looked fine. I have a number of pics but are not up to speed with posting them yet. Cheers.

  9. I have been with Powershop since Nov last year.

Savings for the year are looking like about $700.00.

They give me 5 cents back for every unit I use during the day on weekends as well.

They have a special at the moment giving me $25 for anyone I recommend that joins plus that person gets $50.

Send me your first name and email address and I will get them to contact you.

All you have to do is give them your bank details and they do everything else, and will change you back if you are not happy after 60 days with no charges.

They are really good at communicating.

Their web site will tell you if they can supply you and how much they will save you without you doing any buying but you can save a lot more by purchasing their specials.

As somebody else stated the best savings are probably during the warmer weather.

PS You will probably have you existing supplier ringing and offering discounts to stay when they are asked to change you over. This happened to most people I recommended. So you can get savings without changing.
