  1. Been gone from FNZAS for nearly 2 years, went overseas.

Just got back into Fish again and was just wanting to know something about my Bala shark. Ever since I got him (young) he was very sociable & was always in view. Now he's about 4-5 months old he tends to hang in the shadow's. He's getting quite big also.

    Is this normal with them?as

  2. Hey again guys. I'm moving to Australia on the 15th and all my marine/fresh tanks are going to be for sale $1reserve on trademe. I could only imagine the effort of moving stuff over there, their dept. of agriculture and fish would have an absolute field day lol. So keep an eye out for some bargains :)

  3. I had two who were in a cold tank. When I switched to tropical they were in the same tank, never had a problem with them being agressive towards other smaller fish, well not that I seen. Never had any drop in numbers either. I was also told by the shop that they are agressive so don't put anything like goldfish in with them, otherwise they would be smashed.

All aside, I think if they start chomping and chasing other fish, remove them.

  4. To add: This may be a stupid question but are those cat eyes mating in the picture above. I seem to have about a hundred or so small ones and those are the only ones I have in the tank? Anyone know much about them?

  5. Yeah, very very sticky indeed. I've woken up a few times now to see an empty crayfish skeleton floating on the surface with a very pale looking cray at the bottom. That anenomie came with the crays about the size of a 2 dollar coin, now its nearly the size of a twenty dollar note. Does anyone have a name for him?

The big dude is more than ready to eat now. But he's stayin alive lol. I'd rather release it than eat it, although more than happy to eat one in a restuarant. I bet he would taste good too cause he's well fed with top quality food as a pose to the rubbish they would eat in the sea as they are scavengers by nature.

  6. I think the cray's have grown in size since I got them. Pic also below is of a poor cat eye that has a mussel and an anenome on it lol, must be heavy for it :) Protein skimmer is workin overtime whenever I feed the crays and anenomie's mussels for some reason. Tank overall is good and crays are in excellent nick from what I can see. They love their food!!!

  8. Forgive my maths if its wrong but 267 fish in a 5 foot tank seems a little too much by the time you add gravel, filter components, plants, rocks and decorations its going to leave him about 1 fish every 2 litres which is a milk carton lol. Ammonia levels are good for that amount of fish however. How often is he doing water changes?

Also if the tank is kept out of the sunlight with covers on that should reduce the algae as it did mine. It eliminates the need for expensive risky chemicals.

  9. Cheers for that people. Was just wanting to make sure that this filter would be ok to use in with the harshness of the salt water. If I had known that the actual name fluval was a model and not a make, I would of found this sooner :)

    Cheers.

  10. A fluval 104, if they do, can they describe the performance and water quality? i bought one second hand and cannot find anywhere the specs of this unit, its never been used however and I was also wanting to make sure if these units could even be used in salt.

    Cheers.

  11. Thanks Chimera, that would be great! Could you tell me the aprox RRP of one of those pumps. This will be suitable to add into the new tank, because I will have a trickle filter running at the same time and current variation is the key. Good lph aswell.
