All the fuss some courier companies make - its pathetic. Makes you wonder how all the LFS's ship fish around doesn't it !
-
i use fast way couriers never get any problems with them and they are cheep i got a small poly box up north fo $8!!!
Wow what were the dimensions and weight ? NZCouriers charged me $30 !! Id be interested to compare.
-
All I can say is I wish! I have and breed afra they are awesome fish but they are none of the strains that you have posted
Also they get bigger than dems and are typical mbuna so would do better in bigger tanks than dems although you may get away with a colony in a 4fter.
Thanks Ryan. do you have any pics of the ones you have ? Which strain are they ? What, in your opinion, makes them awesome Im always interested to know what it is that people specifically like about their fish
-
I just made a list of what we can get through wholesale, and you posted this.
As ryan said, not available.
Bugger ! So, given Afra's are allowed, is it just that these strains are just not found much ? I mean, if specifically asked, could the wholesalers bring them in ?
WHY is it the fish I choose are always expensive or unavailable !?

Whats funny ?

Just wondering if there are any Afra's similar to these ones in NZ ??
Cynotilapia afra Cobue orange back
Also can be seen on the following page;-

And this strain is quite nice too;-

It says on the cichlid forum they get to about 3" so I thought they might be a nice alternative to demasonis. Comments or advice would be welcome.

Probably my favorite plec going. Apart from the L046 but since they are rare as hens teeth they are not even on my wishlist.
Lovely example there
-
If they are breeding faster than you can sell them and stocking density is a problem why not reduce your price or give some away ? Tried selling them to your LFS ? Often if you take payment in store credit you can build up a nice sum to purchase that extra setup you need

Do not discredit having 2 filters on the tank either, although 2 405's brand new will be much more expensive than an FX5.
Not if you get them from Organism in chch. Even with shipping the difference is not too bad.
405's $299 each.
FX5 $549
$50 difference but with the flexibility of two filters, both of which have flow rate adjustment.

The G's are not available here.
The pro 3e's are here, but not the ones with the usb device.
Surely its only a matter of time ? If someone ordered one would the wholesalers not bring one in ?
-
Does anyone have one or seen them around? Looking at the website it looks pretty awesome. Any idea what they cost?
Have you considered one of this new range from Fluval ? LOL

Bet they ain't cheap !

I just bought and set up an Eheim Ecco 2236, purchased from Organisms in CHCH at a fantastic price (thanks John, for bringing the hobby within the reach of those of us who cannot afford ANIMATES prices). As an extra plug, I would like to point out to everyone that the Special deal on Fluvals and Eheims at Organisms is really amazing. $299 for a Fluval 405 compared to a STAGGERING $515 at Animates. OK, plug and soafp box over....
What I WANTED to say is this.
W O W ! ! ! What an amazing filter. Simple setup, comes FULL of media (in fact it comes with twice as much as can be fitted in the filter !!) and ooooohhhhh soooooo Q U I E T ! ! ! I am a convert for sure.
No doubt theres lots of you out there to whom this comes as no surprise, but I am blown away. My little Fluval 105 was quiet (as it ought to be since its ickle) but this Eheim is just a whisper. And right away - no waiting a while for the filter to settle.
If anyone is contemplating which filter to buy, from the above, you know my answer
Thanks for letting me share, :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: I'm going back to the bedroom to listen to my EHEIM whispering to me, hehehe.

LOL No I will keep the first lot of fry for breeding. We have some other batches that we are growing up that will be ready for sale some time next year
Wise move - after such exhaustive efforts its the safest thing to keep the first lot.
-
They do.
wow ! thats pretty cool
-
This might be a stupid question but then i dont know much about blue tongues - but from reading this, do they give birth to live infants as opposed to eggs ?
-
Ordered myself a black one, going to cost me $2450, but it's local so no hassle of driving to Christchurch and petrol etc. Only catch is apparently the supplier is out so I have to wait until December oh well. Good things take time right!?
Get this one:_

And pay $300 to have it transported - save $1000 and get some decent fish too

The best things come in small packages, lol.
Happy birthday. :bounce:

if it rattles there is something wrong with it
There you go, inferior product, lol. Probably the wrong choice of word though.

naughty boy
LOL, Im sure the rain washes far worse that is lying around, into the drains, than some miniscule shards of glass...
-
Do you have access to a hose ? Maybe flusing it all into one corner, or down the drain ?
-
landlord would kill me
What about those hooks that stick on the wall and come off without leaving a mark by pulling a plastic release strip out (or however the hell they work, lol) They are all over the TV adverts at present getting people to buy them for hanging Christmas stuff up. Might be a suitable solution.
-
A sharp rock can soon change that
Glad wrap could help (so could a plastic bag.....)
stick them in something???
Glad wrap and plastic bags around multiboxes are dangerous - they would cause the box to heat up I would imagine. The best way would be to have them in a waterproof cabinet, or at least something over them to shield them.

you get more for your money with the fx5.
In terms of initial price, I agree. The wattage is somewhat insignificant too - the extra 36w ends up costing $63 more per annum on the power bill (based on 20c per kWH - 36w x 24hrs = 0.864kWH x 20c = 17.28c/day x 365 = $63.07, if you care, lol).
Though some prefer Eheim in terms of quietness of operation and durability. I have heard the FX5 can be quite rattly but cannot speak from experience - I have its baby version and its quiet as. (much smaller though so it ought to be).

I've emailed them as their website is moving or something, still waiting on a reply.
You would do better phoning them - ask to speak to Bob - he's the boss/owner and very helpful.
Take a Guess ID and How MANY !!

Johannes - you dont have to explain your actions. Though I am sorry to hear something has necessitated the sale of the fish. I wish you luck with the sale and hope you are able to keep some back if at all possible.
