  1. Sounds like worms, TB spreads reasonably quickly and shows a more of a defined bend in the spine rather than hollow stomach. Worms in fish are just as commin as in dogs and cats. You will notice that after you have fed the fish within an hour or so that the fish will look skinny again. Crush up one drontal all wormer plus tablet for dogs upto 10kg. Add to a 20L bucket and stir into 20l of aquarium water. You need to catch all your fish out and put them into the bucket, if you have many fish divide them up so that you will not put them through to much stress. Leave them in for 40 minutes, NO LONGER, remove any fish show signs of stress imediately. When you net the fish out have a close look in the net and you will see heaps of little hairlike worms, EW. Worm eggs can be excreeted by the fish and can live in the gravel until picked up by the next fish, dang! These pesky critters can also be carried by snails... so when you get some new plants there they are again, and new fish can also re-introduce them Do a repeat dose after a few months if you suspect a repeat infestation.

    inanga

Jansens Mt Eden currently have Inanga which have been farm bred. We can also get in Banded Kokapu and very recently there have been a couple of other native fish species available which we can order on request. Inanga are awesome jumpers, love their food and are good with goldfish.
  3. You could try ringing Mahurangi Technical Institute in Warkworth as they have recently bred eels in captivity. They might be willing to share some knowledge with you. Also Auckland Zoo keeps an eel in one of their indoor displays, if you're lucky someone in their aquarium might be able to offer some advice. These are the only people I know that have kept eels ...(successfully)
  4. See list of killiefish available at Jansens Mt Eden on commercial forum. Rare and brilliant coloured varieties.
  5. Because the tank is so small i would use Dwarf Chain Loaches (sidthimunki) rather than clowns etc which can get quite large. These little guys do a great job of eating snails. Alternatively if you dont have enough room for more fish in the tank you could use a copper based treatment called 'snail rid', be very careful when using, don't overdose and follow all instructions carefully.
  6. Red and gold dragons have been available through Jansens. They had only about 10-12 brought into the country and i believe there might only be a couple, if that left in the company. They were going for more than 4x what Zebra Plecos go for, asthey got bigger though the prices were drastically reduced. If anyone is interested in availability pm me and i will find out more for you.
  7. Here is a full list of the african cichlids Jansens mt eden has right now for people who are after something imparticular. The sizes written are what they will be when fully mature. Most of the fish we get in are juveniles. 8. If you want to see how to make some stunning planted aquariums check out the Takashi Armano books. They show you what he uses to make the effect and shows you picturesof the different stages of plant growth once set up. For painting the back of your tank consider using a black tinted pond sealant such as pond flex as this is completely non toxic to your fish. (both the books and the pond flex is available at Jansens.) Most of the CO2 units available that use fermentaion are only suitable for tanks 50-100L unless you use multiple units. You could try getting hold of BOC Gas to get a propper CO2 cannister and to get refills but it can get quite pricey once you get a solanoid and-or regulator etc. Dupla is the best brand for anything to do with the planted aquarium. You can get Duplarit G & K which are undergravel fertalizers one in pettet form for the already established tank and one in powder form for starting from scratch. As for transporting fish, make sure they have ample oxygen. Make sure your heater won't melt the container you put them in and add stresscoat and ammo lock. Fish excreet excess ammonia when stressed. Save as much of the old water as you can.
  9. There are six guentheri at Mt Eden Jansens. One male, five females. Sorry not sold seperately. Other killies we have right now: Arnetti, two available. Australe, ten in total three males, seven females.

  11. Frogs will generally eat small fish. Larger fish will bite at tadpole tails, frog legs and things. I have been warned about mixing the two. :-?
