    New Fish on TV

Sounds good, although the area I can feed my fish in is small due to the lid being cut out of the top of the TV. Last night I moved the pump down a bit further in the tank so the current was not as strong at the top and Jake the betta came up and was fed some of his food which was good. My bristlenoses are very young and don't appear to have bristlenoses at all, I did some research and they look more like gold nugget plecos than B/Ns is this because they are so young? But they seem happy and content with the amount of food they are getting. Thanks again

    New Fish on TV

Hey all, Well the new tank finally cycled with ammonia and nitrite both zero for 10 days, and nitrate less than 5. I think the addition of some enheim biological filter media made a big difference. I have added 5 new fish, 2 small bristlenoses, 2 small platies and a red male betta. Everyone is getting along fine, water tests have been good the last couple of days with nitrite at zero and nitrates at about 5. I have also cranked up the lighting with a 10W feature light in my shipwreck and another 8 watts up top. Now my question is how do i get my betta to eat his betta food and the bristlenoses to eat their spirulina bottom tablets when the guppies and platies seem to eat everything? Oh and in a month or so I want to add a school to complete the tank, I was thinking either 5 rasboras or glowlight tetras, any suggestions on the pros and cons? Cheer cheer

    The next step

Thanks for the advice everyone, I took my tank water to get tested before I introduced the first fish but it sounds like a test kit is the way to go. I do also have the water treatment for the new water to be added. Bristlenoses sound good especially since they eat algae, are they completely herbavores? if so is it spirulina that you should also feed them with? Another question is with the lighting how many hours a day do you recommend to run the light for because i'm setting it up on a timer? And finally what do you think about the use of plant fertilisers or is it too early in the tanks life to start adding more nutrients? Thanks for all the good tips Cal, his guppies, his neons and the TV tank.
  6. Hey all Well the 65L TV tank is now up and running with 6 neons and 3 guppies. I know I should do a water change a week after, is 20% a good amount? and should i make the water the same temperature as the tank water before i add it? Also what fish would be the next possible option. I have heard some bottom feeders would be good to get a balance, but I don't want to go into complicated feeding yet (live bait etc). Any advice would be appreciated. Cheers Cal, the guppies, his neons and his TV tank.

    Hey All

Hey i'm Cal from Christchurch, I have two fish tanks, one cold water goldfish tank and I have just finished building my new tropical tank into an old 29' TV set. I have the plants, filters and heater all set up and are just getting the water right to introduce the fish. Hopefully I can get some good pointers from this place. Cheers.
