  1. :gpo2: Thanks Sage. I was hoping that as I inherited one of them in my live rock, I might have a secondary one kicking around too, somewhere That or his hermaphroditic tendencies may come to the fore :lar:
  2. Done a little more digging in Google images.... Coming towards the opinion that it's probably a sea hare, and not a nudibranch. This is good - nudibranches eat coral polyps, sea hares eat algae and cyano bacteria.... But do lay up to 80 million eggs, which could be... fun. If he's a hare I think I'll put him back in the tank. Don't think it's a nudibranch, as I can't see any external gills...
  3. That's my initial assumption. I've no idea how poisonous they can be - or how reef safe generally they are.... But I do love nudibranches, they can be really beautiful. Weird to think he must've hooked a ride in on my liverock and gone completely undetected these last few months
  4. Just done my weekly water change and clean of the filters in the sump tank, and found a sea-slug of some description lurking in there. Wifey's fallen in love with him, and I think he's cute too, so I'd love to move him up to the main tank - but I've no idea how reef-safe he's going to be. Anyone know what he is and if he'll be happy upstairs? Underside Side view Top view, brown & bumpy
  5. Thanks peops. I may stick him in the sump tank during next week's water change if things don't improve this week then. For the moment, I've put a mirror tile on the other side of the tank to keep him busy for a bit
  6. Hey all, Fairly new setup 400L tank, been running for ~6 months, with a brown tang and the bristletooth tangs being some of the earliest inhabitants. We added a couple of bicolour Chromis yesterday, and while our bristletooth has always been very bossy towards all the other fish (especially the engineer goby - to the point he's earned the name "bully") he's gone absolutely beserk at the chromis - and one in particular. He chased it behind some liverock and wouldn't let it come out for the first 6 hours (until the lights went out) and is still lunging at it from across the tank every time he catches a glimpse of it. He(?)'s a very pretty fish, beautiful blue speckled with yellow highlights to his fins - but if he carries on like this he'll be looking for a new home. Anyone got any pointers? :-/
  7. Thanks GL - I'll have a Google & see what I can dig out. And Ethanyo - I know it's complicated - but there are basic things like knowing what SG corals prefer compared to fish, or temperature ranges, or pH levels... Or even which fish are going to be happy cellmates, or how many fish of which type will coexist happily in a tank of X many litres. While I'm measuring dKH and it looks like it's within the right range, knowing that fish A prefers a dKH range of 8-10 and fish B prefers 9-12 would allow me to know that a dKH reading of 9 or 10 is good. Top level stuff. But that's fine. Looks like what I want may be fairly unique to me, so I'll develop it locally rather than online.
  8. :gpo2: Thanks Guppy Luvva - that's exactly the sort of thing I was after. Shame it doesn't seem to list any of the 3 fish I currently have in my tank however Nor does it appear to list inverts & their matches...
  9. While doing my water tests today, I had a thought. Does anyone know of a resource where you can plug in your tank's readings, and your tank's livestock, and have it tell you if your parameters are correct? When starting my tank back in the UK I toyed with the idea of starting a "tank stocking" program where you could say what stock you have, how big your tank is etc and it would say what would make good playmates - kind of a beginnners friend. This seems like a natural extension of it. If there's one already out there, I'll probably just use theirs - if there isn't, does anyone else think it'd be a useful resource or a waste of time? Cheers for advice
  10. Really liking the look of the tank. Great work - keep the photos coming!
  11. we were out for just under 24hrs, luckily still cycling the tank so no fish in it just Mr Crab in the sump tank who appears to be ok. temp went down to just under 18 degrees. glad to see you've got your power back now aer0

    Crab

have some brittle cone star fish and some brine shrimp in the tank, off the live rock, I don't want him to eat so for the moment really do want to keep him in the sump. Shall get some mussels for him - good excuse to buy some for me!

    Crab

oopps, thanks for the heads up, no idea what to feed him now? Still in the early stages of setting up tank so hopefully any damage the small piece of ham has done will be sorted before any fish go in. This is the tank atm

    Crab

well found a crab hiding in a piece of live rock. have demoted him to the sump tank as think its a gorilla crab and not reef safe, any confirmation or knowledge as to type of crab tried some cat kibble but found that floats, so it is now munching on some ham. thinking if I leave it in the sump tank it will eat any detritus that gets down there
  15. Sikaflex -291. Marine Sealant. Wife walks the dog down along the beach road throughout the week, so you might well of spotted her with her bright red hair and a mini schnauzer. Thanks may drop you a line to find out where you get your stuff/fish etc from
