  1. I've got all my corys in a separate tank hoping for scooters (very fat cory and lots of activity but no eggs yet) have 3 little bumble bees in there too (about 1.5cm), will they eat the eggs or the babies?(when and if I finally get any)
  2. 20 of them - wow, would be impressive - what are they with?
  3. No room for 10 extra black widows mmmm, and if I do increase - potentially bigger hit squad mmmmm I think they gotta go. Ta for the tips
  4. Hi there looking at the warnings not alot is said about the black widows compared to my others, the boisterousness is there in my flying foxes and algae eater but as said alot of inter species chasing, I'm wondering if the nastiness is my black widows??? especially as there is only two, its like they have their own territory, one sits middle of the back the other middle at the front, have seen them following fish around and eat new delivered babies. Any thoughts/ experiences???
  5. Cory's are my favs, I just love watching them scooting around the tank.
  6. Just 'googled' it - thanks.
  7. Watching the discussion, and a few seem to be coming through the FS. So is the long fin cory another species or a peppered with a 'mutation' coming through???
  8. Excuse my ignorance - what is an oto?
  9. Hi guys, great to hear from you all, not sure but this site stated I had no new messages so sorry I wasn't ignoring anyone, the info is really interesting on the fish compatibilities, we are looking at moving the 2 flying foxes and the algae eater to the small local zoo where my son works if we see any signs of trouble stating to develop or they get much bigger and the tank looks out of balance and we have a power shift due to sheer size, at the moment they are between 31/2 - 4 inches long. We have a predominantly female tank in all species which is probably a good thing and any chasing we do get seems to be inter-species. Am also looking at moving out the black widows next week - last to mention - first to go, Natureland Zoo has one so it would be great to boost to their numbers to 3, healthier all round. That site will be great to check out before I invest in any new fish - thanks heaps. Not sure why it would suggest removing my corys though. PS "WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!" its like being in a series of LOST IN SPACE (oops showing my age), - doesn't make for good reading - its like I'm serving up a banquet for a select few :-? .
  10. Oh, we have 2 reticulated cory's and 3 peppered cory's, bottom feeders wise we also have 2 flying foxes and 1 Chinese algae eater So maybe we just try some veges, pumpkin sounds good. All tank tests were satis
  11. the 'shimmies' describes it well. How much salt for 200 L tank would you use and is it ok for ALL fish. Pumpkin - do you cook it first? We add algae disks at the moment and the odd pea which some of the fish seem to enjoy. Thanks for the info - this is great
  12. last one about a month ago, and before that - it would be months ago
  13. ta for the response, out of the two would think it would have to be swim bladder, we have had them since tiny and I gather they would live ??? over 5 years - ?yes If so anything to be done
  14. I have a Mollie and rather than the normal fishy swim with just the fins she seems to have started swimming with her whole body , you could liken it to a snake or lizard swim style I suppose - she is active - it just looks not as relaxed, and not my first to do this - and in the longer term ones that I have noticed starting to do this seem to die, any ideas what is causing this?
  15. GOT IT!!! Operation was a success. thanks for the idea and help, we're giving him a bit of a feed before releasing him back, Yes it was silica from Aqua One
  16. Has any body ever had a cory get a bit of something stuck in its mouth? I have a peppered cory that looks like it has a piece of silica stuck in its mouth, it sits at the front of the tank not eating and goes up for air more often than usual; Any ideas?
  17. Good ideas guys and thanks again, will look for some plastic leaves on my days off, I'm getting quite excited about the prospect of little scooters. I think they are becoming my favorite fish.
  18. Silly me I'll just use some of the plants I've got in the tank.
  19. Good tip, ta heaps, if you wanted to add a couple of fresh leaves and change them every few days - what could you use??? (will look for some light plastic leaves though).
  20. Ta for the info - it certainly something I want to have a go at. 'Egg Yolk' - do all fish enjoy a bit of yolk as a treat???? I am worried about cleaning up what is not eaten. I put a skinned pea in there a couple of times - that was certainly a hit.
  21. Thanks for the info of breeding corys, it certainly would be cool seeing a group of tiny little scooters bustling around the bottom of the tank. It does sound relatively easy and very tempting, would have to get a new little tank though or wait until the platy babies find new living arrangements, they are in the hospital tank at the moment. I asked the FS where the peppered corys came from - they were breed locally. In general, what temp do you have your tanks at and do you keep it constant temp or fluctuate it?
  22. PS thanks for the feedback on juliis
  23. I'm not sure where the FS got him from, I'll ask when I'm in there - hopefully make it tomorrow after work so I can pick up my new Julii, I think we have the wrong environment to breed cory's eh, let alone have the experience. When we got him he certainly didn't look like this. I took a couple of more photos today to try and give you some idea of his pectorals - not easy as this guy just doesn't know how to stay still - LOL
  24. Hi there, I do have 3 peppered corys and they do like fossicking around together which is so cool to watch, I think he's just camera shy, those of you that enjoy the cory's - will a julii join in the fun or do they need there own group?
  25. thanks Danilada he certainly didn't look like this when we got the him and his other two tank mates. As I say he is very shy, as soon as I have the camera out he is gone. When he is busy about his business he is just lovely to watch.
