  1. im sure that come winter the power companies secretly charge more! thats the only logical explanation i can think of, i recently moved house from living in a 5 bedroom house with 5 other people between us we had 5 fish tanks running and now at the new house there is 3 of us here and our power bill is higher then it was with 5 people, we have 3 fish tanks and are still with the same power company! what the?! and i know power recently went up but still it doesnt make much sense to me

  2. Wow, really interested clearly. :slfg:

It's easy to do. Light wattage times hours on per month + heater wattage times hours on per month+Filters etc wattage times hours per month=watt hours per month. One thousand watt hours=1 kilowatt hour so divide by 1000. Kilowatt hours times KW hour price=monthly bill.

someone is onto it ey!

  3. Do remember, when travelling, that your car heater will most likely be running so the interior will not be that cold (unless you have an old car or the heater isn't working).

Make sure they pack the fish lightly and don't put too many in each bag. Bag should have 1/4 water to 3/4 air, or oxygen preferably.

You could just put the bags in a cardboard box then pack scrunched up newspaper around them. Make sure the bags stay upright so they aren't falling over or rolling about.

oh yea well if i cant get any poly boxes that could be a option

  4. I have smaller polyboxes (chucked the big ones I had on the T&E yesterday as no one wanted them) and heatpacks which you can have as long as you dont want too many. I am in Epsom, very very close to the Southern Motorway, making it easy to collect, so if you are interested let me know.

I am very certain that if you let the fish shops know that you are travelling they will bag them so they can last the distance. My main suggestion would be that you go look and decide what you want, then go back and purchase them. The fish will go 24 - 30 hours in the bags but less is better.

oh awesome, i plan on going to hollywood fish farms to see whats on offer and i plan on getting a bunch or malawi (hopefully some giraffes) small fish though dont want anything bigger then like 5cm, and at the same time ive been looking on trademe which is only making the decision even harder lol i appreciate the offer with the polyboxes and heatpack  ill get back to you as soon as i have sorted out exactly when im coming up etc, oh and the trip will only be like 6hours

  5. im not sure if i picked the right forum to start this in but it was either this or off the topic :slfg:

in a couple weeks im going up to auckland and im thinking of buying some fish while im up there and drive back with them myself. im looking for some tips on how to pack the fish etc to make the ride as sweet for them as can be

  6. Probably going to be looking at a 6 x 2 x 2 ft min to grow them to a size big enough to pair off and actually have a chance of no deaths when they do pair off. Probably min of 4x2x2 for a pair..

You can breed them and remove the eggs and raise them like angels (just watch fingers).

last time i removed the eggs from the parents(my Jags) i got a pretty decent nip from daddy :slfg: and then only 6 eggs became fry and only 2 survived, then with the next spawning i left the eggs in with the parents and now ive got 70 odd fry swiming around  i hope my mate gets a pair that are good parents like mine

  7. it just means that the fish that are breeding have been carefully selected to make sure the fry arent inbred or born with deformaties(that how u spell it lol?)

there is alot of different types of the same breed of fish like gourami, dwalf gourami, red tiger oscar ,red oscar gold oscar, albino oscar, u know what I mean
