  1. it seems to be a faded spot on the fish. Don't think it is ulcer like

Last time I checked there was no fuzzy growth on it.

I guess there is nothing I can do and the neon will just die?

I haven't spotted anything on other neons but what I did notice was that they stayed in one spot.

This is unusual for neons IMO. Anyway, since removing the other neon they started swimming around again.

Is it somehow possible that they sense the other one may be ill?

    cheers

  2. Just did a water change and noticed something on one of my neons.

I think this may be neon disease. Any thoughts?

I have taken him out of the tank and place him in a small tank.

Not sure if I should put him to rest or not?

The ram is not doing much. Pretty much lifeless...

  3. Hell, that is scary stuff.

I just did a waterchange yesterday. I do one a week normally.

Should I do daily ones or every few days?

I did test my Ph and that was alright. Have no means of testing other parameters right now.

Thanks for all your help :-)

  4. if white and stingy could be the first signs of something nasty

Hmmmm, Ram doesn't look to well two days on.

It is mainly sitting just under water surface and it seems to be breathing a bit harder.

It is not eating either. Usually Ram grabs food out of my hand.

Other fish appear to behave normal although I am not sure about my bristlenose.

He appears to be more in the open and not move around as much. His breathing appears to be higher too.

Anything I can do to right now as a precautionary measure??

  5. Hi

When I came home from work I noticed my blue ram with a swollen vent andwhat I thought looked like eggs inside. There was also something string like attached. When I looked again 20 minutes later the vent was back to normal and I can't see any eggs anywhere.

If it weren't eggs, what was it?

  6. So I have reduced my lightning to 10 hours or so. I probably have reduced the amount of food somewhat but the algae are still there.

I'd say probably increased over last week. I think what I see is black brush algae.

The light tube says "extra day hi-glow 40 W". I have no clue about lightning, should I look at something different. Most of the plants are affected. Initially it was noticeable on java moss but now my ambulias are getting really affected.

I also start to get small bushes on background and some rocks.

I have one bristlenose but he can't keep it clean :-)

    Cheers

  7. I actually bought another Blue ram which is now in my tank with two Bolivians.

Initially they seemed happy together. One Bolivian is now acting aggressive towards blue ram.

The other Bolivian is a bit more passive.

About 5 minutes ago it seems the latter was locking lips with the blue ram. Next thing the blue ram knocks the Bolivian for six. Bolivian looked like Cameron during Tua fight!!

From what I read they can exist in same tank.

Is there aggressive behavior towards blue ram because he is alone?

I think my Bolivians are same sex.

  8. I was in the shop earlier and looking at some blue Rams. One of them was rather beautiful and I was tempted to buy it but I noticed other fish were some what aggressive towards it. Actually one was particularly aggressive.

I noticed the belly was showing a lot of pink/red/purple which led me to believe it may be a female. Perhaps about to spawn?

Is there a reason why fish show aggressive behavior towards one individual? I see cats do it sometimes if the victim is unwell.

The fish also had a bit of damage to the anal fin. Is this something that comes right? I passed on it in the end as I was not sure what was going on and I do not want to see $30 worth floating in my tank :-)

    cheers

  9. Hi,

I replaced my duck mouth outlet with a spray bar and this caused more flow. There is now movement in most plants as previously there was not.

Now I am wondering if there is not too much flow?

I placed the spray bar on the side of the tank and positioned it so the holes are parallel with the water surface.

Would it be better to aim the outlet down?

    Cheers

  10. Great link Zeebee. Looks like a case of brown algae or black brush algae.

I am very careful when it comes with water out of a shop bag.

Will pay more attention to feeding. Any use in turning light off a bit more?

Currently my timer is set from 11 AM to 11 PM

  11. On the glass and polystyrene background it appears brownish.

I have a few small things that looks like green hair between pebbles. That is hardly noticeable though.

Assuming that the moss brought it in, will it keep producing algae?

  12. Hi,

I have noticed that there has been a significant increase of algae in the last two weeks.

Now I'd be surprised if this is a cause somehow but it seems to coincide with me adding two java moss, a pair of bolivian butterfly and 10 neons.

Prior to that I had no algae. The light conditions haven't changed.

Could there be a reason for this? Is it because the tank is stabilizing somehow?

    Cheers

  13. I was wondering what I could use as a filter grate?

My filter is hidden in a polystyrene tree trunk and

in that tree I have a hole so water can flow into it.

Unfortunately a few small curious fish got in and did not make it out.

Some type of grate would stop that.

What can I use for this? Thought about cutting bottom out of colinder but the boss won't let me :-)
