  1. Think nz bred but not sure, definatel a cross of something mmm...
  2. Thanks, i'll call him partially dragonized This is the confusing part though, I really dont know how to classify him..... Blue, irridescent, Partially dragon, definately not a halfmoon. just have not seen anything else like him with a name on it. It was sold to me as a blue dragon..... nothing else....His fins were shreded when I got him and at that point did look like a halfmoon because of this, but as soon as i got him on a good diet (blood worms and good betta pellets), His fins started growing and six months latter the fins just keep growing and growing and this is the result.... The caudal fin was actually probably another cm longer before I attempted to breed him and actually protruded out. sort of like a sword tail?? I may try breeding him with a short fin... see if this stabalizes the caudal fin in the next generation? I like the colours just looked a bit weird with the sword tail. I like him though
  3. THought you may want a look at my latest crop.... Male was a normal krib, the female an albino version. the split was 40% normal 40% albino and 20%who knows what but they look in between the two... interesting to see which way they develope
  4. p.s the fins were intact, untill i bred him with a female that looks very similar but was a little bit too big for him to handle...... It didnt quite work out.. :-?
  5. does his fins a bit more justice but for some reason the camera just doesnt pick up the purple, its coming through as more red but in real life its deep purple round the edges before the white tip and real bright lighter purple in the middle any hints on the camera action :slfg: Anyway any thoughts more on retaining the purple and ears or do you recon cross with any purple.... What about crossing with a deep red HM....? Or a blue short fin HM....? or has anyone got a female the same that they would like to sell me....?
  6. ok it works but doesn't do him justice i'll try and get a better shot.....what this look like?
  7. Ok not sure if this is how its done but have a look at the link and let me know if it works. Excuse the camera action as i just quickly grabbed a photo of him in one of my breeding tanks. to post this. Let me know what you think..... Cheers
  8. Hi All I have managed to score myself what I believe to be a purple elephant eared salamander Fighter. He looks awesome. The guys at Hff in Mt Roskil had him. If someone tells me how to load a photo I'll get one up. What im really after though is some ideas on breeding him, HFF say I would be lucky to find a matching female, but what i want to do mainly is retain the elephant ears and the purple colour (not worried on body type). I have a purple halfmoon female, would this retain the colour in the fry? I also have a very nice female blue and red crown tail, which has a touch of dragon in her? Or do one of you guys know anyone breeding purple females of any type and would purple + purple retain the purple in the fry?????? Does anyone have experience with these fighters?????? So many questions! :happy2: :happy2:
  9. The females usually bully the males, the females instigate the breeding usually. It could be that the female is to young or it could be the male is ready to breed the female not. When I breed them I usually use two females, that way they are so busy competing for the males attention and chasing each other about the male gets left alone. When they do eventually pair up they settle down and I take the spare female out before it gets stressed or injured. If you dont want a third female, separate your male and female for a while and try again. But if ones ready and the other not you'll end up with a really stressed or injured fish. Good luck Also what age are they? I have never been able to breed kribs that are less than 8 months old..... this could be the reason.... Also try feeding them blood worms. they usually colour up after 4 or 5 days on blood worms and get straight down to business. Good luck let me know if any of this helps
  10. Kribs arent fussy, I have a pair now breeding regularly and have breed them previously with no issues. Best method i found was to get two females and one male, feed them up on blood worms. the females are the most active in the breeding process eventually they will pair up once you have a pair remove the spare female or she will get harrassed to death. I also usually find that an other fish in the tank means the fry disapear after a week. I usually start with a deep silcate sand substrate and two spawning areas (plant pots) but as soon as the fry are out and about I syphon as much sand out as possible so that cleaning the tank is easier. As soon as i see the fry out I feed micro worms 3-4 x daily, after a few weeks of micro worms, I start feeding ground flakes and micro worms alternately, I have never feed brine shrimp, (tried it, my fry just ignored it strange!). you'll need a few grow ut tanks. Good luck they are fun to breed..
  11. Thanks for your help Blondiefella, I nipped in and had a word with Alex down at aquaworld, they had an old one they bought but never used. He gave it to me $100 bargain! :happy2: , Pump works all the seals on the frame are sweet and the tanks are near new. Pump works fine, just need to get some new taps and give it a clean up...... needs a heater. Crunchbang, im not going to keep them in it continously, I have five tanks but have 10 males now so im going to use it to rotate the fish, give them time to spread there fins in the big tanks then give them a rest. I was thinking of getting 6 tanks made for it (maybe just four) and keeping the small tanks to photograph and to just view them. it holds 12.5 litres, has filtration media areas, if i split it into 6 tanks thats about 1.75 litres a tank, I would think thats better than most bettas ive seen floating round in coke bottles? When i get round to cleaning it up and getting the tanks made i'll post some photos, again thanks for your help Blondiefella.
  12. Hi All, Just thought id introduce myself... Scott... Im back into keeping fish again after a few years out, Im interested in Betta splendens and breeding pretty much anything that catches my eye. have few tanks but seriously looking to breed some nice Dragons. I just purchased a few out of sympathy (I know! never buy a fish because you feel sorry for it!). But they have both come right after a few good feeds of blood worms and a good flake food and some decent water.... would be interested to get in touch with some auckland breeders to purchase some good stock as the pet shops have zero quality fish. love the site! Cheers
