Thanks David
So with cleaning the canister just a dunk in the aquarium water in a bucket is ok to remove all excess gunk and not upset bacteria stability?
I have read that you need to distill or leave the water in a container for 48 hours before putting into tank for a water change so that co2 goes etc. I have always done a slow top up direct from my hose etc. I now the ph will be different but I will have sand and rocks keeping ph up.
I live in Auckland what is the best way to water change?
Ty.
I can't decide what filter to get for my juwel 450L tank.
External Cichlid tank.
Need some good advice on what would be best as the tank will be average stocked.

I am setting up a new Lake Malawi Cichlid tank, they are messy so I am going to add an external filter to help with the standard one with my tank.
I am using a Juwel 450l tank.
What would you recommend?
I am decommissioning my tank and looking to set up a LM tank.
I have a Juwel 450l with no external filter so will need to guest one - any req?
Also what are some good Malawi fish that don't get to big?
Plus any other advice, website recommendations.
Will be using sand and rocks but also thinking of a couple of bits of coral is this a good idea?
Thanks for any advice
I have a new 450l tank cycling for 5 weeks all going well then it crashed, not overstocked, no plants, ammonia high one it has gone very green cloudy, never had this happen before. I don't have an air pump yet and still considering a 2nd external filter.
Hi I have been cycling my new juwel 450ltank for a month and it is quite "dirty" and murky a bit, a lot of green and brown algae. Do I need a 2nd external filter any help appreciated.
I am getting a new 450l tank for SA cichlids (made the choice thanks for the feedback) I have a couple of questions.
1: Is a curved front glass tank (jewel 450) ok or is the flat better is there any differences?
2: Can you get white gravel somewhere else than pet shop etc as it will be quite expensive.
3: What is are the best hiding places for a ghost knife.
4: Where are some good pics of SA tanks to get some ideas.
Thanks for help, advice. Mark
