Our most common jumpers at work are neons and harliquins (and bichirs when we have them!)

My crew eat Hikari Sinking Carnivore (and large Cichlid Gold pellets even though it's not ment for them) and they're doing great. When they were smaller I fed them on wardleys shrimp pellets which they did well on too
I don't feed meat mostly because they prefer the pellets! -
lol a customer told one of the girls at Carine that the brightly coloured patches on the female convict were from the babies eating her and that was the flesh underneath the scales :rolfl:
I get stuff like that from know-it-all customers all the time :facepalm: There's no arguing with people like that haha

Hi guys,
I'm looking at changing around my big tank a bit before my pearl aro moves in.
I currently have dark (brightwater) gravel in there however I plan on painting the back black soon and I'm worried it'll look a little dark so was thinking of changing to sand. Bare bottom would be heaps easier but I don't want it looking too clinical.
I've heard having a bright substrate such as white sand can be a contributing factor to the development of drop eye - in your experience is this true? If so, I definately don't want to risk it and will stick to dark gravel and maybe choose a different colour for the background such as blue.
Also, what do bichirs prefer? I understand the catfish will probably prefer the sand.
Stocking is pretty much going to be aro, catfish and bichirs, ghost knife and a school of red and gold severums.

My first ever plec a few years ago was a ''blue eye'' golden bristlenose from HFF. Looked just like any other GBA to me :lol:

As far as I'm aware it'll help with algae in the water (green water) but won't do much for algae on the glass. Have you done a water test or taken one to a shop to be done? Maybe you have high nitrates and/or phos? Either way a bit less feeding a more waterchanges usually do the trick
Live plants will also help absorb excess nutrients and slow the growth of algae however the gravel is just going to be a place for all the uneaten food to settle (which will spike ammonia and it turn nitrates causing algae). I think removing the gravel will do more for the problem than a UV filter either way :smln: -
I would get a saltwater tank just to house one of these if I could :nilly:

I've found Eheim the best (I haven't heard of Stellar though). I have a big one in my bedroom and the bubbles make more noise than the pump itself :thup:

Clarity did this to me also when I set up my big tank. There was a teeny bit of cloudiness from the newly washed gravel but I was told I should put clarity in anyway. I should have listened to my gut because it made it terribly cloudy and just did not calm down. After a week I got so angry I ended up emptying and refilling the tank (all 750L of it!).
Good to hear yours has cleared up with carbon! :thup:

Ive been siphoning water out, heating it on the gas stove and putting it back in...
That's a really good idea! I wouldn't have thought of heating the existing tank water :thup:

Don't paint it! I hate scraping paint off second hand tanks :nilly:
I used black vinyl fabric stuff from Spotlight for behind my tank, looked just as good as painted IMO.
Ooo really? No reflection or anything? I'm about to paint my big tank but will avoid it if I can. I've painted one of my small ones and it does look fantastic. The glass is so thick on big tanks I've found paper backgrounds look useless. I'm going for blue also which makes it even harder :lol:

Be careful with material if it get wet and does not dry you may end up with mouldGood point - hadn't thought of that. My fish splash like mad so that'd be no good.

I'd probably have to throw a thick duvet or blankets over the top and hope for the best! :facepalm:
Might consider adding hot water to the tank if it got really cold but I'd rather it stay cold than fluctuate too much.

Looking for something to use as floating cover for my Jardini. At the moment his 4ft tank is full with surface height Tiger Lotus' however I'll be moving him into the big tank soon and the other inhabitants destroy live plants so I need some fake floating ones to keep everyone happy :spop:

I always try really hard to spell things correctly and use correct grammer.. However sadly spelling has never been my forte. I am probably guilty of refering to fry as bubbas at some early stage of fish keeping :gigl:

The ad clearly says the tank came with the house so it's the previous owners who are to blame. They're doing the right thing trying to find the fish a home that does know what they're doing. Someone who doesn't know anything about fish wouldn't have a clue how big oscars get or how to properly and safely clean a tank.
Instead of judging and telling the seller how terrible he is maybe we could educate him kindly and inform him that most fish stores will take surrenders so he has the option of re-homing the fish that way and then can sell the tank in his own time?
You won't get anywhere with people by shutting them down - chances are he may now not relist who knows what will become of the fish.

I have a baby vermiculated I bought a few weeks ago currently in a grow out tank which has more solid yellow/black patterns but looking online it's quick normal for each individual to really vary. -
I forgot to add water conditioner one time a couple of years ago - 2 hours later I was wondering why all my fish were gasping for air and my dwarf chain loaches were all of a sudden dropping like flies
Always assumed my tap water has high chlorine levels so have been super careful since then!
Can anybody in hamilton test my water tonight? urgent

Oh dear! Maybe do a 50% waterchange and add some ammo lock with the water conditioner if you have some handy? Always handy to have your own test kit, hopefully someone can help you out
