  1. I always keep a thermometer in the fridge, just on that you normaly have in a tank. The back of the fridge is the coldest so I put them at the front. I have got two seperate tanks with four axolotls in each. They are fine together if they are simalar in size. Gills will grow back if nipped at. Poor water quality causes gills like that.
  2. Goldfish can nip at the gills of the axie, Im surprised the axie hasnt tried to eat the fish. You could try putting the axie in the fridge, make sure the fridge dosnt go colder than 4 degrees though. He wont eat while in there, the cold slows their metabolisum and helps them pass whatever might be stuck in there.
  3. Ive just gone to the beardie care sheet and there is a site all about brumation. It says they all have their own way of doing things and it looks to me that even though mine eats at 7.30pm daily brumation is what she is doing and yours is the same just going the full hog. They say to give a bath once a week to keep them hydrated. Its well worth a read.
  4. Hey my beardie is doing the same thing. She wont get up much, if she does its late arvo, she seams to eat her fav foods like apple and peas, also some live food, but not as much as she did. I notice you are in rotorua, did this start just when it got cold, like sunday or monday?
  5. Thanks for your reply. These have a blue spot on the legs. Im starting to feel bad for them now.
  6. Ok. I didnt know we had different types. These are the usual green ones you find. How would ya know if they are native?
  7. Does anyone feed preying mantis to their bearded dragons? I just found 5 outside and Im wondering if they are ok.
  8. Yip I keep going back to the care sheet, thanks for the suggestion, just went through it again. It does list mealworms so does that mean they are ok. Maybe he was thinking of them not sure but he did say they can eat their way out if not chewed by the beardie. Is there any truth to this?? This guy is knowen to get things wrong a bit and it sounds odd to me. Would think stomach acids would kill anything that made it passed chewing.
  9. Hi, I know when it comes to beardie food fresh would be best but I was wondering if canned peaches etc is to high in sugar to feed to them. I also just spoke to the pet shop guy and was told waxworms are not the best for a beardie unless you take the heads off them first. Has anyone had any problems feeding waxworms?
  10. Ok, so I put Dezy outside and she had a ball ont there, racing around looking for bugs, eating the odd bit of old dry leaf and a lil bit of wood shaving, then basking on the sun, all this in an hour then I got her back in as the wind was getting up and the day ending. She went back in her enclosure at 5.30pm and she is still at 8.10pm basking under her lamp. I think its a lil odd but she must be happy. She also finished all her food when she came in, so maybe just digesting before bed. Lights out at 8.45 so she dosnt have too much longer.
  11. It has been just a sprinkle of calcium daily. I dust locusts which she gets every 2-3 days and and a dusting on her veges everyday. Was thinking about dusting just her live food and leaving the vege plain though. I had been giving her so much because I was told her feet were slowly turning and getting better with the use of the calcium, from the guy I got her from. If sunlight is better then maybe she would like a visit to my bird avery then, (it has no birds). As for the drinking water she still wont drink from a bowl or in a bath so I have to spray her and she drinks drops off her nose. Thanks for the help.
  12. Thanks for your thoughts. Somtimes she will turn her "feet" up the right way but not that often. I know there was about 6 beardies the same and they were bred by a young guy that didnt know any better.
  13. Hello. Im a new beardie owner. My bd's name is dezy and I think its a girl. Dezy im told is around 1 year old, I got her in december. My only concern with her at the mo is her to front feet are turned up so she looks like she has her palms up. I was told that this is due to a lack of calcium when she was little, so I have been giving her calcium on her food every day. Has anyone seen anything like it before, or know if she is likely to come right?
