A precipitation of weather comes your way, the solution - add a "d" and it will run away.

oh oh.. when you're a mouse?

ehhhh okay. i suppose i should've read the thread carefully. and still should've... if this one's already been done, then whoever posts next can have the riddle lol. A man and his son were out driving when they got into a car accident. On the way to the hospital in the ambulance, the man perishes. When the boy is rushed into theater, the surgeon says 'I cannot operate on this boy, he is my son.' How is this possible?

There are 5 houses that are each a different colour. There is a person of a different nationality in each house. The 5 owners drink a certain drink. They each smoke a certain brand of cigarettes and also have a certain pet. No owner has the same pet, smokes the same brand of cigarettes nor drinks the same drink. The question is. “Who has the fish?” CLUES 1. The British man lives in the red house. 2. The Swedish man has a dog for a pet. 3. The Danish man drinks tea. 4. The green house is to the left of the white house. 5. The owner of the green house drinks coffee. 6. The person that smokes Pall Mall has a bird. 7. The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhill. 8. The person that lives in the middle house drinks milk. 9. The Norwegian lives in the first house. 10. The person that smokes Blend, lives next to the one that has a cat. 11. The person that has a horse lives next to the one that smokes Dunhill. 12. The one that smokes Bluemaster drinks beer. 13. The German smokes Prince. 14. The Norwegian lives next to a blue house. 15. The person that smokes Blend, has a neighbour that drinks water.

the wind! There was a man one night. He started to run straight forward. Then he turned left. Soon after, he turned left again. Then he started running toward home. When he got home there were 2 masked men waiting for him. Who were they?
-
he sure does, he's really quite shy. the corners of his tail are quite pale, maybe you can keep a lookout for that. it looks like the camera had crashed by the time i got in this morning, not too sure why. c'est la vie i suppose!

true.. daylight should be lighting the tank at least - i guess my computer might've had an update and reset itself? lol. i shall find out shortly!
-
Yeah the lights go off at 7pm and back on at 7am - although one of the reasons I set this up was so I could prove it happened! An easier way would've been to drop a 15min loop into the timer but... this was more fun.
-
Heh I've set it back to just a 2 minute upload, because I want to log in this evening and see if the timer actually does turn the light off!! It looks like it has used about 7 mb over the four and a half hours it's been running, the photos are only 16kb each or something.

So I have now mostly established my 19L tank at work, and put an ornament in (though it really does seem quite large now that it's in there..). I also found an old webcam on my desk at work that was missing its download cable, so smashed it open and wired a new cord onto the circuit, imagine my surprise when everything still worked! I found some software that will update the page whenever movement is detected by the cam, though this does lead to a lot of 'oh there goes his tail as he leaves the frame' pictures. Click to maybe see Edgar the plec! The camera is pointing at the bottom of the filter as thats where he likes to hide, I will update this thread with some higher res pictures of the rest of the tank later on.

We have dataloggers which can log 3 analog channels (ie temperature) and a kind of godzilla logger which has up to 8 channels, so I suppose it depends how severe your mts is =) This is an example of the trace data which results from logging over a period of time, which I have taken from my tank. You can see around sample 200 where I did a 50% water change on the unstocked tank, and the time to recover the two degrees back to thermostatted 24°C. It's also interesting to note when the ambient temperature climbs above around 21°C, the water temperature rises slightly. This may be a side effect of direct sunlight striking the tank during this time period - I may need to install blinds! The trace tonight should let me know whether this is the case, as it is very cloudy at home tonight. (higher res available at http://nightwlf.trutrack.com/fish/19Ltank130410.jpg) Our firm doesn't build pH sensors as they are a bit black-box tech for us (more complex than it is worth us figuring out our own ways to do it) but they are available through other outlets, and our loggers can be configured to accept their output, quite easily if it is a millivolt or milliamp output. If the system is constantly connected to a PC, you can set it to send you emails when certain conditions are breached, like the temperature on tank A goes over 26 degrees or tank C goes under 20 degrees, pretty much set any conditions you like. If you have the logger connected to a cellphone modem, you can have it SMS a txt message to you with a warning saying whatever you like. It all starts to mount up a bit, but it can certainly be done. Suppose it could text the international tweet number and update a twitter for you, hadn't really thought about it =)

In my current line of work, I manufacture dataloggers for a wide range of environmental conditions. Having recently set up my new 19L tank at work, and cycling the water a bit (before I return from holiday and stock the tank, heee) I decided to monitor the temperature of my tank, vs the ambient temperature. The computer at work is set to ftp the realtime readings from the logger up to a website, which you can see here - though I am having some problems with our software on the new Windows 7 system so it crashes, and seeing as I'm off on holiday then the page isn't going to update for five days or so, but just as an example; http://nightwlf.trutrack.com/tank.html The datalogger is also putting away a reading every 5 minutes, of the ambient temperature and the tank temperature, so I can get a historical graph of what the traces have been doing - but I don't have an example of that at the moment. All in all, at cost, this setup is probably worth about $200, maybe a wee bit more, so its not exactly a hobbyists tank accompaniment, but if anyone is particularly interested or has any questions, feel free to bombard me with them =)

Thanks Sam, I've often wondered how they get on with other fish in the pet shops, but I guess that clears it up!
-
Thanks everyone for the welcomes =) hmm the drawback to a fighter would be that I couldn't have more fish in the tank! and as a true noob I just want something simple to start with, and we'll see where it goes. Jen, I did look at some sparkling gourami pictures on google, the colours are so varied! Robyn tells me yours are silvery speckled blue, which I think I found some pictures of what I imagine them to look like. They are very pretty, but I think I have my heart set on tetras for the first time round. We'll see how I go!!

Alright, here is a picture of my currently fishless tank.

Hi, my name is Dan. I live in Christchurch. After spending some hours staring into my girlfriends' tank, and with some gentle persuasion, I now have a small 19L tank of my own which is currently aging some water. I have met a small handful of you before, at Totally Tanked meeting/barbeques, or at your house, or at Connected Café in New Brighton (whoo!) =P I am thinking of getting some glowlight tetras and a suckermouth for my tank. I will post some pictures of the tank at some point!
