  1. Ah arguable

I think the lion fish is a very poor example.

on one hand they are the most evasive species on the planet, however they are also very well traveled. They can move from their 'natural habitats' and easily establish in another country without the help of man.

So are they a pest or is this just mother nature?

However please note I understand that most of these species get to water ways/reef systems through the hand of man.

  2. Tropical (Not real "sharks")? Yes!

Sharks e.g bull, great white, tiger. Yes, with zoo license, containment permits, massive tank e.t.c.... So for hobbyists, no....

    Would be pretty epic though....

what tropicals are you talking about?

  3. Good to see. Someone bought up in another post on this site something you may have looked into, and that is the importing of sperm. There was no real response to that, I don't know if you have an answer to that? At the moment I have other priorities otherwise I would be interested in one of the River cooter turtles.

That was me and still can't find anything on it. I think a IHS needs to be created like any other species... But would have better chances than for a live animal.

  4. Looking to get back into reptile keeping...

kept water dragons, bearded dragons, snake necks, box tortoises... ect

Want something interesting... Moneys not a issue...

Let us know what you have for sale/coming up ect.

    P.S im not Maf...

On a side note whats happening in the world on the legal side of strange reptiles in NZ?

  5. Hi all

been a bar manager for the past three-four years.

    Thanks

  6. Just graduated from uni now and the job market is very tight for my choice in jobs, so looking for something to do. I work full time but thinking about taking on my own small business.

I know people talk about doing this but I am seriously thinking about doing this at the start of next year once I have saved up a wee nest egg, but financially its not a issue.

My question is New Zealand able to support another importer?

Looking at freshwater and marines with a breeding room for goldfish.

what do you think, can NZ support another one?

  7. Can anyone help with this question? cant seem to find the answer im looking for in txt books or google.

In a human, resting cardiac output is approx 5 L min -1 of which 750 ml (15%) goes to skeletal muscle and 1.4 L (25%) goes to the digestive system. During exercise, cardiac output increases to 25 L min -1, with 20 L (80%) going to skeletal muscle, while flow to the digestive system decreases to 300ml (2%). How does the vascular system change to accommodate these changes to blood flow

A really simple answer would be brilliant.

  8. was thinking for front-line police, what would aide in my application. Im a white male ages between 18-25 so competition is fierce. I have a degree, I am volunteering in the community by teaching football at high schools just need to learn a language.

I start tutoring for NZ sign in the next few weeks but I am going to want/need to learn another language. I am dyslexic so I have been told Mandarin is really hard to get around so was thinking Russian as NZ has a growing Russian community in CHCH but I dont know if its a language that is in demand.

  9. Maybe read the thread from the start- already covered the angle of not enough keepers, cost etc....bollocks dude.

Chameleons- piece of cake to keep: veiled, panther...........well no more difficult than other 'specialist' reptiles.

The key is to do it right:

    http://books.google.co.nz/books?id=cxWLIC6ZvxUC&pg=PA52&lpg=PA52&dq=easy+to+keep+chameleon+species&source=bl&ots=SS33UrETfL&sig=EUZRi2NmpM1F3MaM2lTZBDM_8AE&hl=en&sa=X&ei=6Bt9T_bqNqaOiAeZ8NWNCQ&ved=0CFgQ6AEwBw#v=onepage&q=easy%20to%20keep%20chameleon%20species&f=false

Problem with many keepers is that don't do their research first, e.g: people who don't believe in brumating box torts as it stresses them out..........jesus

And, yeah I agree you would be the bomb for MAF.

And again, don't talk crap on a public forum, I have never been in a courtroom for smuggling, or convicted of any crime......you are a slow learner dude.

Get your boxies in the fridge!!!!!

according to mum if a fast learner :slfg: but who knows ay...

these threads pop up every couple of months with someone wanting something not here and the discussion always ends in the same answers...

  10. I think you need to move on from this idea of a permit system. It will never happen, NZ doesnt sustain a population of reptile keepers to support this.

To run a system like this it would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars annually, plus start up costs ect, plus new laws ect...

We will never see these animals, not in the immediate years anyway.

The market would be tied in anyway. You would have a very select few that could afford to do this... they hold the cards on what they sell and at what price...

If i remember correctly you didn't sell female leos for a few seasons to make sure you got max coin and to keep the price as high as possible. Now try that with someone who is operating a business. You may never be able to obtain females. Thus the market price will remain in the thousands.

Chameleons are known for their difficulty and not adapting well to captive conditions.

Also varo you would probably never be granted a import licence due to the fact that you have been on the inside of a court room for smuggling and I would make a epic MAF worker thank you
