Looks awesome! Coming together very nicely

You need a permit to keep native lizards, and I believe you have to buy them from authorised breeders, and can't collect from the wild.
You cannot buy them either, they must be given to you.

Just interested in this - you actually got to talk to the person in charge of biosecurity in Auckland? Biosecurity for Auckland or for the country?
When I called a few months ago I was put through various places as no one section (including biosecurity) had any clue what i was talking about. Finally it was confirmed by a return call to me that the old by-law stood and I was also told that claiming ignorance was no excuse I wonder if that pertains to the person you talked to
Was the head of biosecurity for Auckland only. This was around a year ago. Would be nice to see an updated pest list rather then the old 2010 one that everyone always links back to...

I called up Auckland's head of biosecurity and he knew nothing of this by law.

It's gone now, that went quick :sage:

Only had them a short time like one winter - so far from an expert - but um must of been a good 2-3months if not more.
Depending on how cold it is where they are being kept then may still require a little heat. Alan mentioned down to 12C. Sounds about right but I have lost my book from Ron Tremper (signed copy  ). Think I just turned all heat off over that time. The geckos looked just as good at the end of brumation as they did prior. If start looking sick and or losing condition best to put the heat back on.
When does winter start lol? about a month after that. haha you'l work it out.
Haha thanks, I am probably overthinking all of this to be honest. Just want to do as much research as i can the first time round so i get it right.
-
Sounds good, Matt do you brumate for 3-4 months too? What month should i start in or can i just decide when its cold enough and then stop feeding and turn the heat off?
-
3-4 months. You need to make sure they have digested their food and don't have a belly full that will rot in their guts when the temperature drops. Don't feed for three days and then bromate when you can get the temperature down to about 12 degrees C. Not easy in the summer.
Awesome, Thanks heaps. Will keep my male separate from my females to keep the females stress free.
-
I don't breed females until they are 50 grams. Males and females come out of brumation pumped up with hormones and ready to breed.
Sweet thanks. How long do you bromate for? I read online that it can range from 4-8 weeks. Is it best to start in the coldest point during winter?
-
Yes, up to you, when they come out of brumation and yes. They need to be big enough to breed and big enough to bromate.
Thanks Alan, Do females start ovulating after brumation or do they need a male's presence to trigger ovulation?
-
Can i keep my male and two female leopard geckos together all year round or is it best to keep the male separated until breeding season? What would you say the breeding season is in New Zealand? Last question, do you brumate your leopard geckos?
Thanks, Matthew :bggrn:

95% sure both are females. Here I was thinking Alan had a new way of determining the sex of young geckos.
Or I watched two males go at it < very unlikely but anything is possible, so I tell myself.
Been waiting for obvious sexual dimorphism from both. Still waiting, oh I did suspect this one to be forming eggs inside her belly. Yesterday put with my confirmed male and they mated straight away. So fairly certain 'he' is a she.
Two other people i know and myself purchased so called males which ended up being females. I think at this stage selling them as unsexed is the best bet.
