OK, maybe he has an attitude problem! I can only say that none of the Lionheads I have ever had have been agressive, infact most have been quite intravert, show you that fish are their own people hey  Cheers :bounce:

Yep my room is heated with a seven fin column heater set to 28c. the tanks are warm enough to ensure the fish continue to spawn whilst saving a bucket load of cash on the power bill. My system has a built in thermostat on the heater but as a fail safe I have also installed an external thermostat [as is used in reptile tanks] that is set to cut the power off should the room temp exceed 30c [Just to be on the safe side  ] I can do a major water change in my 6x2x2 tanks and the water temp is back to full again in a day or so following the work [This ofcourse depends on the number of times the door is openend and the duration of that period. ] Remember that a heated room can also produce high humidity and the problems associated with that fact such as mildew etc. To over come this I have a small rotating fan that has a timer. This means when I want to lower the humidity I simply turn on for 15 - 20 mins, problem gone! Cheers :bounce:

Yep bit of a miss match with species I think. I would rule the Humphead/Lionhead [steatocranus casuarius] out they are quite happy to get along with other species, infact I have them with my Electric Yellows no probs at all. I would suggest the mbuna are the main contenders as trouble, they really can be nasty characters when they wish to be. As was suggested if you are going to get more Peacocks, try to get some at a reasonable size. Two reasons for this: 1. Peacocks can be very slow growers 2. they will be less likely to be harrassed Cheers :bounce:

I feed a range of the products. ~ 0.8mm Growth Bites for small fry ~ 2mm Colour as the logical step up with the development of the fish ~ 3mm Cichlid for the larger fish. [The Pellets can also be crushed and used as a very fine powder feed for newly hatched fry] I also feed Veggie Pellets & Spirulina Algae Wafer to the cats and those species that require or enjoy a certain amount of veggie matter in their diets. The latest product is a Flake food that is still under going field trials but wont be far off release. On that matter, ALL the range is actually tested in various fish breeders setups to ensure that it meets the required dietary needs of the targeted fish and is not released until all trial have been assessed and the product given the green light. There has been a lot of debate about the ingredients of this food range but I am not a chemist etc. so I can only call it as I see it, GOOD! This is also a topic I will not be entering into no matter what, I feel that forums are not the best suited places to discuss these things but I will recieve any pms or emails and forward them to the Prestige Management should the need arise. p.s. I use to be the NSW South Coast distributor for NLS and have found this range of foods equal in results without having to bare the additional costs that come with one brand and not the other. Cheers :bounce:

Nope, but then I am honest enough to call a spade a spade. That being said, since the first trials of the products were arranged with me, my fish have never looked better, bred better and generally appear better in their general attitude and well being. [You have only seen some of my fish photographs and once you have seen more you will be sure that it is good tucker!]. By the way, the promotion of the Prestige Aquatics range of foods IS NOT my aim as a member here, but should anyone have any questions in relations to it, please feel free to pm or email me for help. To the Admin here I am sorry if it came across that way, my reason for being here is to learn and share knowledge with like minded folks [as it is for all the forums etc that I am associated with] Cheers :bounce:

There in lays the answer! I will NOT buy any Frontosa from unknown breeders, the Kipilli are from the real deal WC strain as were my Tanzanites when I had them [infact I acually collected them from Q when they had served their time. As for the 7 bars from 6 issue, that I am more open to having had WC Frontosa Tanzanites throw seven bar fry. I am sure this is a genuine mutation that no doubt occurs naturally in the wild. I am also a strong believer that there are actually more 7 bar strains in the lake than are known or rather recognised in the hobby. The Yellows well that is a definite result of continued mis-management as far as in breeding is concerned in the Australian Aquatic scene. Even the poor Electric Blue has been subject to selective inbreeding to produce phantom strain such as the so-called 'WhiteKinghts' some folks just don't get it hey?

Never heard of it!   http://s1.zetaboards.com/PrestigeAquatics/index/ I think I may have tried it! Cheers

There are some really great variants available nowadays, but one of the main factors is the expensive prices. I have a friend who is currently breeding several vatiants including: ~ Kigoma ~ Kipili ~ Karilani Golds ~ Moba ~ Ikola ~ Tanzanite ~ Burundi ~ Mpimbwe ~ Samazi ~ Kitumba ~ Zambia ~ Kapampa [That collection makes my eyes water and I begin to drool ] I have heard through the grapevine that there will be even less imported soon as a result of the civil unrest in the region of origin and that would be a crying shame as in my opinion, expensive though they may be, they are truly a stunning member of the aquarium scene. There are also a lot of breeders in the game who are only in it for the money, crossing species etc trying to develop what they call new strains, again this has been the cause of many problems with both Frontosa and other aquarium species e.g. The Labidochromis caeruleus - Electric Yellow Labs. These fish have been inbred that much that they infact could be labelled Electric White due to the loss of the vibrant yellow colouration once known for As dedicated fish keepers we must ensure suitable breeding practices are followed and that we are not the cause but rather the saviour in regards to the demise of the hobby. Sorry about the rave but I am very passonate about my fishy friends! Cheers :bounce: DID YOU KNOW? In 99% of cases there is a sure method of telling whether or not the Frontosa on offer is in actual fact one of the 'Blue' variants. The answer is easy! Simply look at the EYE bar of the fish. If this bar goes over the head, the chances are it is merely a Burundi 6 bar. If it goes up to the Eye line and then cuts across the bridge of the snout you are fairly well sure to be looking at a true 'Blue' Variant. Ofcourse if the fish shows 7 bars, then this would be a real point of contention as chances are it is Kigoma 7 bar! Cheers Again!

Well done ryanjury  Just testing! No they are not Haps they are Labs to be exact they are Labidochromis caeruleus it was a mistake to have labelled them like that but at the time I was merely so tired that I completely mistyped the names on their slides. I left them like that though to be able to use them as a demonstration as to how some folks don't take the time to study up on the fish they keep. [Well that's my story and I am sticking to it ] Cheers :bounce: p.s. I have some better shots I will post after I have done my work today.

Here are a few shots of my fishroom. This is a purpose built room that houses the bulk of my breeding tanks. Tanks include: 4 - 6'x2'x2' 4 - 4'x2'x2' 2 - 3'x2'x2' as well as several smaller fry tanks and tubs. HEATING The room has a very limited number of heaters in the tanks with the bulk of the tanks running on ambient room temp produced via a 7 fin column heater with dual temp control via the heater control and an external reptile thermostat wall mounted at the furthest point in the room from the heater. LIGHTING Some tanks have aquarium flouros fitted but the room has a double string of ceiling mounted flouros that provide adequate lighting for general viewing where as the individual lights are better for maintenance on the individual tanks. AIR SUPPLY Air is supplied from a hi-blo filtered air pump mounted outside of the fishroom to ensure fresh air supply. FILTRATION The bulk of my tanks are filtered via air operated Bio-Sponge Filters. These, when set up correctly with the right amount of air flow etc., manage to keep all but the dirtiest of tanks clean to an exce[table level. They are also one of my main sources of new fry foods as the fry love to nibble at the debris and resulting creatures that cling to the filter sponge. NOTE: I also have various tanks in varying sizes located through out the house. FISH SPECIES - African ~ F1 Cyphotilapia frontosa Kipilli - Kipi;;i Frontosa ~ Chilotilapia sp. euchilus - Thicklip Malawi Cichlid ~ Labidochromis caeruleus - Electric Yellow Lab ~ Pundamilia Nyeri - Flameback Nyeri ~ Cyrtocara Moorii - Blue Dolphin ~ Variabilichromis Moorii - V.
