We are looking for an experienced fish keeper to join the team in our Porirua store. The position is full time and includes 1 weekend day.
The Pet Centre Porirua is situated in the Harbourside Centre Porirua and is the 2nd of our 4 stores. We sell a broad range of pets and pet products and are well known in the region for having professional and knowledgeable staff.
The successful candidate will join the retail team at the front line, helping to providing the shopping experience that our brand is well recognised for. Although this is a specialist role, there is will still be a requirement to be involved in the other departments within the store.
Specialist responsibilities include...
Ordering and receiving of aquatic livestock and plants (tropical & cold)
Maintaining and nurturing the relationships with regular aquatic customers
Building relationships with novice fish keepers to keep them in the hobby
Achieving sales and margin targets set by the Aquatic department manager
Maintenance of all wet and dry display tanks
General presentation and organisation of the aquatic department
Continual self improvement of aquatic knowledge
Team training on various topics within the aquatic department
Communicating to the Aquatic department manager any opportunities for improvement in the department
Upholding The Pet Centres reputation for having an advanced aquatic team
If you…
Have a some experience in frontline retail
Have a general understanding of the sales process
Have a broad aquatic knowledge base including fish identification, compatibility, tank setup and maintenance, diseases and ailments in fish
Work well in a supportive team environment
Love helping people solve their problems
Can smile all day
Don't mind getting your hands wet
Can walk up to a total stranger and start a conversation
Own a pet yourself
