I usually boil all my wood but if the woods been in the sea at some stage would it not contain salt and slowly disperse it into the fishtank?
It's fully waterlogged and sinks already.

Just wondering if its ok to use driftwood from the beach in a freshwater aquarium. Is there anything I can or should do to make it useable? I've only ever used wood from a river but have a nice piece I found at the beach.

Yep, leaves are pink except for the veins, the reason why I wasn't sure about it being too much light is because some plants with leaves right at the top of the tank are green, others are pink and they are bottom half to just above mid depth of my tank.

Hi,
I have some hygrophila polysperma, a few of them grow pinkish coloured leaves, this happens at all depth levels in my aquarium. Is this normal, too much light, too little light, or related to something else.

Have been told that it is possibly a genetic disease, maybe temperature related. I don't use fertilisers.
I just have to try and get rid of infected leaves before its too late, it spreads from leaf to leaf.

Hey there, that sounds like the problem, it's very hard to eradicate by cutting off infected leaves unless you find it really early.

I have had Java ferns in the past where the cells on the leaves start turning brown and rot spreading throughout the leaf. This seems to be able to spread to leaves touching each other. A few years ago I had a whole 6 foot tank wiped out when I purchased a few ferns from a pet store.
It is definitely not the standard dark patches that can form on java leaves.
It spreads very rapidly!
I have recently got back into fishkeeping and a friend has still got some java fern with similar looking symptoms (we bought the ferns from the same pet store years ago), I would like to propogate some ferns for my new tank but not if it means getting this problem into my tank like in the past.
Wondering if anyone knows the cause, has experienced it or knows how to get rid of it?

Good idea, but you know, like a new toy, I can't wait months for it!
I'll just monitor the tank water for a while, anything drastic I'll whip it out.
