  1. We have one left available at Proud Paws, $429. Will be the last we have for a while. Stunning we creatures and they have more personality than some other Turtle Species.
  2. I Had a customer who purchased a ceramic heater from an electrical store, it stopped working after only 3 weeks, upon trying to return it they were refused a replacement or refund as she had used it in a reptile tank and they were not sold for that exact use and it may have been "Splashed" by water from her water dragons bath (shouldn't have made too much difference though!). At the end of the day it depends if you want after sales service for a product used for its purpose of sale and talk to people who should be able to recommend products for exact uses rather for sun beds.
  3. http://www.pet-store-christchurch.co.nz/products-page/accessories-for-reptiles/reptile-one-ivy-runner This is the ivy runner I believe pictured.
  4. Thanks Navarre for your positive comments. Yes new store doesn't even compare... we ran out of space about 2 years ago. New store is 3 times the size... There will be great opening specials and deals exclusive to forum and store members. Still a wee way off but getting closer by the day!
  5. Here's an offer, to EVERYONE on the Fnzas, mention you are a forum member, like us, at Proud Paws Northlands Mall and we will give you a 10% discount STORE WIDE. Excluding livestock and sale items. No strings. No time Frame. Easy as.
  6. If they didn't know possibly due to just arriving, and also the fact we currently have 2 new staff training, cannot learn everything in a couple of weeks. There will always be staff in any store who will focus on certain species of animals, reptiles for example. In regards to matching, no we do not advertise it, nor will we be, most people will actually talk about their needs and pricing and we go from there. This way we get to know each other and people different needs. I will usually do a deal on larger purchases. Never hurts to ask, good old saying of nothing learnt nothing gained. I can tell you now that there is 3 other shops in CHCH who sell a thermostat like we do for $25 more than we do. Just an example off top of my head. The bulk of our prices on our website and TM are FAR cheaper than elsewhere you have mentioned. We know all of our reptile customers, maybe you should get to know us, we look after our loyal customers very well. Later in the year we are relocating, and I can assure you we will have the largest display of reptiles, reptile products and anything reptile in NZ. It's my personal passion and I will be passing this on in the store. Would love to see you at the opening, trust me its going to be amazing. As previous i'm not disputing your view, but simply will not tolerate negativity when it comes to the facts.
  7. I suggest you get your facts right before pointing fingers.... The babies ARE 8 weeks old, came to us at 6 weeks. Since being with us they have shown good growth rate, we cannot be responsible for them before they arrive with us. We DO know what we are talking about and DO have the largest range of reptiles and products in the South Island. And this is fact, I get sales reports on stocked products throughout NZ. We have products that you will find no where else in NZ. Price wise we ARE cheaper than just about any other store and if you find it cheaper elsewhere we will normally match it. Our staff are well trained and we have 2 ex zoo keepers on staff who between them have near 30 years experience. Maybe if you think we don't know what we are talking about its due to you being told the wrong information.... We are known NZ wide and are often referred to by vets for advice. I am not wishing to dispute your feelings but simply letting you know the FACTS.
  8. They are a mercury vapor bulb and cannot be used on a thermostat. The bulb must cool before turning back on. Those type of bulbs are used in large spaces where normal UVB bulbs will not spread the u.v deep enough into the environment.
  9. Well depending on situation it is a reptile at the end of day. As Repto says if it has been packed well for transport there is no reason why sending on courier wouldn't be ok. I have sent a few lizards now around New Zealand in boxes on the courier and never had a problem, I use a box filled with holes sitting within another box to avoid damage, and both boxes are filled with crumpled newspaper which stops the movement due to any rough handling. Being a reptile it will curl up have a good sleep and wake up at the other end and be little the wiser, just like they would in the wild during the cooler months, believe it or not Australia gets frosty nights to. Sounds like you are stressing a little to much and should perhaps be a little more positive with your outlooks.
  10. Well I would have to disagree with your research, I have water bowls in the tanks and they seem to spend some portion of time sitting in it to absorb moisture and stay hydrated, they of course also drink from it. I would be putting a water bowl in smartly. And eating like that, he sounds fine. Just watch the crickets though, they can prey on the little lizard at night if there is enough of them left in the tank. Good luck
  11. You mention the temps with an f? you are meassuring with celicius and not fahrenheit? If so the tank is way to cool. I asume though you do mean celcius as you have the temps sounding good. Whats the tank droping to at night in temperature? Is it staying even or dropping heavily? If he is eating 3 locusts or similar a day it sounds like he is doing just fine. The stress of the move will also shake him up for a little while and it may take time for him to settle down again. Keep offereing finely grated carrot and mesculin salad. Its important to get them used to it, however at the moment the baby insects need to be the main part of their diet. But don't rush their growth by over feeding..... A mist of the tank a couple of times a day helps, I keep my misting bottle on top of my tanks so the water stays warm, a spray with cold water im sure isnt the best way for them to start their day
  12. Why complicate things when a lightbulb works very well for a fraction of the cost..... Sometimes the more basic and less fuss with the set up the more sucess you will get....
  13. Classic picture. The question is whos hiding from who.....
  14. I am glad to see that I am not the only one to have thought that this tortoise looked rather poor in appearence. Potential forced growth in artificial conditions as a juvenile may be the cause of the tortoise appearing out of proportion??? The hooked appearance on the top of the beak could mean eating ability is poor and hence maybe a limited diet. Can't say I would take this animal on but one things for sure a little correct TLC would no doubt give this "girl" a new lease on life... Have to laugh at the sellers attitude towards questions which are not too hard to answer, people do generaly want to have clear answers before making an investment such as this.
