This hasn't been very fast developing, I first noticed a slight amount of red in its mouth a few weeks ago. It actually looked slightly better today so I decided to give it a salt bath and see how it goes. Hopefully it continues to improve.

Looks bacterial - similar to what bn get on their backs.
However try google haemorragic septicaemia and see if anything comes up.
Thanks Adrienne, I'm not sure that is the same but it could be.
I spoke to the vet today and I am going to try to drain it and take them a sample to test.
Hopefully it is something treatable.

Just got this pic, the dark spots on the side of the mouth appear to be filled with blood, and starting to spread through its face.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks

My female royal whiptail has what looks like blood in its lips & mouth, it has now started to spread slightly. It is worse after it eats and doesn't seem to change with different foods. It is still active and eating but not quite as active as normal. No other fish affected.
Does anyone have any suggestions for treatment?
sorry can't manage to get a pic of it yet.

Try some flourish excel or CO2. You might have excess of nutrients but no carbon source.

Can anyone please help me ID this male whiptail? (please excuse the dirty glass)

I have Electric Blue Acaras if you are still interested.

They were sold by Phil Collis, not sure what the blacks were but not royals, the whites were lancelota I think.
-
They are L142 ?
Yep L142. How are yours going?
-
Nice. How big are they?
Last time I measured biggest 22cm and smallest 17cm, hopefully they keep getting bigger.

Are the any L130 in NZ?
They are not something I have heard of being here.

Looks awesome, I will have to come and have a look sometime. I do miss the little damsel.

I found the Hagen/ Glo tubes very good, huge improvement from stock tubes.

If it is when the heaters switch on, it may be from a spike as the elements heat up and draw more current. Not sure why it would start doing it now though.

I recommend Organism and Redwood Aquatics in chch they both have a good selection of everything you will want and need.

I have a few plecs and a pair of royal whiptails. I will post some pics once they are in their new tank.
-
I went with a mix of 5 and 6mm holes, increased size further from the source, 17 holes spraying across/angle, 4 hole spraying down, 25mm pipe.
Tank is 1500l x 700w.
Seems good, I appear to only have 1 dead spot and have pointed a powerhead at it.
-
Thanks, I did think about a few pointing down, will drill them now.

Just wondering about hole size for a spray bar I am making,
Flow will be 3500-4000lph, 25mm pipe.
I was thinking 17 x 6mm holes as that is similar surface area as 25mm pipe.
Does that sound about right?
1 row of holes or 2 rows staggered?
-
I did wonder about that, I will trim it down.
Thanks for the input, I will post some pics of the whole setup running a week or so.

That looks like a good set up, but I hope you've left room for the water to flow above the Poret if it clogs, overflowing sumps suck!
How many LPH is the pump? The return line looks pretty thin.
I think I have enough room, the water line is about 4cm below the top in the mech area, then have about 40-50l of space to take the excess when the pump is off. I also considered drilling an overflow at the top for potential overflows or overfills.
The return is 25mm, pump is 6500lph but with head height and probably fit a ball valve will have about 3500 - 4000 lph

Not completely finished but you get the idea, water comes in, through 3 layers of poret, then polisher, then over baffle through bio noodles.(middle chamber where poret off cuts are now)
I have this setup in my basement with the tank on the other side of the wall, above left.
My tank is drilled with 3 drains and 1 return, all 25mm Hansen fittings.

I don't think it's fighting, not that I have seen anyway, but I have just sold the other large female from the tank so it's just her and a male.
So far so good. No major improvement but no worse either.
