Photo isn't the best, phone quality pics ftw.
C. balansae spathe, took forever to flower just wanted to grow and grow, ending up at about 12-13cm tall.
Another one is coming up atm, going to be a while before it eventually opens though.
-
Very nice, do you keep them????
im assuming due to the male thing you are not breeding them atm....
Yeah we keep them, we managed to get them to breed back when we had one sadly it died soon after giving birth to a pair of yellow/green babies Wouldn't mind getting a few more females though.
Wow that depth of field is INSANELY smallThat's how a macro lens works
-
Sisters friend came round with her macro lens, had a bit of fun taking some photos. Forests & Common green geckos
Too bad they're all males
This one and the next one would have to be my favorites out of the set.
-
All of the other dry starts I've seen had vertical growth and had to top their glosso. I guess my brand new lights running a 12/12 cycle are keeping it low. I'm keen for it to all fill in! Should look awesome when the whole foreground is covered.
I've never seen an emerged set up with vertical glosso, seen it grow up under lower light under water though. Unless you count where you get so much growth it starts to grow on top of each other.
-
Doesn't really look like that much glosso, should have stuck some more in Was a bit of a pain to get untangled though.
-
C. Pontederiifolia spathe. Partially melted as I didn't have a camera until I realised that le phone didn't take too bad of a picture.
Need to set up another tank some time. Want to try expand on my current emersed collection a little. 7 pots in a 2ft tank isn't fufilling anymore

We have a ranunculus down this way that we used to hook out of the river and sell to the Aucks many moons ago but it did better in cooler water and that was not the leaf shape as I recall. I am not sure of the correct name but we used to call it aquatica. Some of the Ranunculus sp. are sold in the bog plant section of the nurseries but it may be a bit early for them yet.
Someone want to grow one emersed and flower it?
Any idea if it does well in ~24C ?
-
Where did you get the inline heater from?
EDIT: Also have some emersed Glosso if you want some of that.
-
C. Potunderiifolia Spathe is coming up Plus another C. Udulata spathe as well. Pics will be up when they open. Hopefully within the week.
-
Latest C. Undulata spathe. Only one as the other pictures were a bity blurry.
I don't have any space in my room!!! Grrrrrr. :lol:Your other photos on Flickr are great
Sure you can make space, a 60x30x60 sitting on the floor will do for a tank/lighting
Dont really show my pictures around that much mainly just to the odd friend. Although I do like my many cat pictures.
-
Yay :happy2:
Those crypt flowers are so cool. If I had the room I'd love to set up a tank like this
It's really not that hard, very cheap if you don't mind how pretty it looks. Could do it in a plastic tub if you really wanted too
Have a C. Undulata spathe out atm, with another spathe from that and C. Willisii 'lucens' coming out in the next week or so.
Can get pictures up later after dindins.
-
Purple throat, so not just C. Willisii it's the "C. Lucens" hybrid.
Another C. Undulata spathe coming up anddd you can see a glosso flower!
-
supasi - I am suprised he has not hunted you down already!
I have a couple of his just not enough room for any more crypts/tanks at all, at the moment
-
C. Willisi spathe, has yet to open.
The spathe itself is tiny, ~5cm from base to top and was it was difficult to get a clear picture of it.
Correctly identified Crypt flowers will be good on the plant database as they are the only easy way to identify them (DNA is a bit tricky).Who would I go to to see if they need pictures?
-
Long time no update Buttt...
Spathes!
C. Cordata
EDIT: Fairly sure the var. on this is siamensis, so it would be 'C. Cordata var. siamensis'
DOUBLE EDIT: Wrong I.D. I think. Looks more like C. potunderiifolia
C. Undulata
Had one of each open up at the same time, exciting stuffs. :3
there's a lot of pictures in there, some old, some new. I manage to upload them on to flickr then forget to do anything about them on here I'll add a link in my signature for all the pictures.
-
Dart frogs would be nice, although I didn't realise you could get them in aus?
-
you need a red plant :slfg:
His macrandra on the right is starting to go red Needs to be moved a bit further back though imo
-
Would you be able to explain how the siphon/draining works on the grow bed?
Going to try make a similar set up myself soon
Pretty sure it's just an overflow
-
You were right Simon. It was only a leaf. Although I have some tiny L. Repens flowers out with another 4 or 5 buds along the stem. Could be a little hard to get decent pictures of but I will try.
-
I got an LG something-o-rather, need it for europe next year.. Wouldn't have a clue how to use it lol.
-
*Needs help w/ new android phone in general*
-
Couldn't get any closer pics. Was hard enough to get it that focused.
It is a pinky brown colour, and there's a kind of lump where it bends a bit at the base of the plant.
And about the leaves thing, I was kind of wondering about that too. Must be happy in there if it is a spathe.
*crosses fingers*
When it does flower I hope you dont mind the smell of rotting flesh.
Oh, I won't mind at all, it's only in my room...

Crypt Tank 2.0
in Aquatic Plants
Posted
The tank is still going, although i'm currently at uni where as the tank is at home. Makes it a little difficult to look after and I don't really know if it's in the best condition atm.
I'll be home around the 22nd of April though, should be able to give it a clean up around then and maybe give this an update.
